Not too long ago, someone posted this neat website:

It talks about the various cuisines in Malaysia, plus has some
recipes and pictures, too. If you wanted, you could Google on this
newsgroup, last summer I posted a link to our food pics from
Malaysia.

In print, the DK (Dorling-Kindersley, I think) guidebooks
usually have a section toward the back where they print pictures and
mini descriptions of common dishes. I've always thought that was a
neat visual reference.
