.......Why, after eating my beloved asparagus, does it cause me to turn my head
in avoidance of noxious fumes eminating from the above substance when forced to "piddle"??.......I've asked other people, and some said "yea" and others said "neah"........I usually serve mine with a velveeta cheese sauce over the top of lightly STEAMED spears. Any tips on avoiding "the smell", or is it a personal thing??? Quando(Mike) |

There's also probably a genetic inability in some people to detect this particular odor, and production of the compounds that lead to the odor depends at least somewhat on the growing conditions of the asparagus. For more than you'd ever want to know on the subject, see S. C. Mitchell, "Food Idiosyncrasies: Beetroot and Asparagus", in Drug Metabolism and Disposition, Vol. 29, Issue 4, Part 2, 539-543, April 2001, online at http://dmd.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/29/4/539 -- Chris Green |
