Default Saute, Sks errr?

I have come across a Spinach Dal recipe ....

http://www.ivu.org/recipes/indian-be...inach-dal.html

looks tasty ... But what on earth is a Saute and what
does [sks] mean...

Is this perhaps a US/UK/Indian language problem...

Many thanks,
Roy (UK)
