I have a Presto Pizza Pizzazz. It's a gizmo that cooks pizza, out in
the open in front of your eyes. Fun, and the kids love it too. And the pizza itself is delicious, believe it or not. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...d%3D1105893544 / has the product on amazon for those not familiar with it. There is one problem I'm having with it: I cannot get the crusts to be truly crispy. The product has an upper and lower heating element to cook the toppings and the crust, and the instructions suggest running the thing for a few extra minutes after the pizza is cooked with just the lower element going, if one wants a crispy crust. I've tried that, but it hasn't worked. I don't think there's much else I can do. There's not a thermostat or heat control, just a timer and a control to turn the two elements on or off. But I'd like to hear from others who've used the product if they did anything special - maybe make the dough differently? - to get that elusive crispy crust. |

I posted a thread about it a a few weeks ago. I've discovered some advantages and some some disadvantages about the product. The advantages a 1.You don't have to preheat the oven 2.Cleanup is easy. 3. It doesn't heat up the kitchen which is great in the summer. The disadvantages a 1.You can only bake one pizza at a time and it has to be within a certain size range. 2.The pizza takes longer to bake than the directions specify. 3.The outer rim of the crust doesn't get crispy. My theory is that in order for the crust to get crispy it has to be exposed to HOT AIR like in a regular oven. The hot air inside an oven helps evaporate the moisture in the crust and make it crispy. With the Pizzazz you don't have that moisture evaporation and the crust remains soft. |
