I sure remember this stuff. I loved it on boiled or baked potatoes.

Not a scam. Each of the companies spent millions of dollars to find
out that little bits of green parsley in the mix gives the product
more authenticity and thus is likely to sell more. Giving them an
edge in the struggle for survival.... or maybe I am confusing The
Origin of Species with Marketing 101.

Gosh, that must be fabulously easy to make, maybe I'm not getting it.
You sure it was cottage cheese and not maybe cream cheese?
Good luck with that.

So, do what my mother used to do. Buy plain cottage cheese and cut up
your own chives into it.
That was over 40 years ago.

Me, too. What I also can't find is full-fat cottage cheese with pineapple.
Some brands even had cream added.

That may have been the brand I used to buy in Ohio. Dean's isn't available
in Arizona and I have seen any others like it.

Thanks,

Apparantly the same thing I am missing. My guess is that the
manufacturers figured out how to sell salt for $10.00/lb by packing such
combinations as "garlic salt" and "lemon pepper"..

The place I was referring to makes their own of both products. I suppose
they add the same chive mixture to cream cheese and to cottage (they
only sell dairy products, so I suppose they try to create as wide a
variety as possible). I reckon the cream cheese is the bigger seller
breakfast-time, while they sell more of the cottage cheese around lunch.

We can still get Hood chive or pineapple cottage cheese here in NH.
Maybe this brand is regional, but I don't know.

I'm lucky enough to have a nice herb garden, but chives are very easy to
dry or freeze. When you purchase them at the grocery store, chop up
whatever you won't be using immediately and freeze them in a baggie.
When you need a few "fresh" chives, just reach into your freezer. They
really do keep pretty well this way and they won't go to waste. I do
the same thing with scallions.

And what ever happened to large curd cottage cheese? Had the really
big chunks in it.
