Default microwaving vegetables

I believe that it is now accepted that steaming your veg is
preferrable (nutritionally) to boiling it to death. That accepted,
where do we stand with microwaving veg?
Yesterday I cut up a little hard cabbage and gave it 1 minute full
power 1000w. Added a little butter and pepper and it was lovely.
Crunchy, but cooked. However, did I knock lots of nutritional value
out of it by microwaving it, rather than steaming it?
Not the most exciting question ever posted I know, but I would be
interested in your (sensible) opinions:-)
Regards
Jonny

Hi...I put one serving of a veggie, usually brocolli, into small desert
bowl, annd about 3 tbsns water, and mike on HI for about 2min 30 secs.
Comes out fabulous, green, pour the water off ,but it isn't green!
Apparently mo loss of nutrition. BUT!!!!!!! How can we continue to
cook with Mikes, when I saw on TV that CANCER is the number ONE KILLER
of people under 85 years old??
I'm somewhat concerned, and I still have 7 years befor I hit 85!

Mike, your post implies that there is a connection between microwave
cooking and cancer. Are you serious? I'm unaware of any research that
points to such a thing.

I don't remember where I read it, but microwaving food in any kind of
plastic container is supposed to release some kinds of chemical in the
plastic and let it go into the food. I don't remember just what it is
supposed to cause, but what ever it was it wasn't good. Anyone else read
that?

By the time you hit 85, anything can cath up with you. Eating veggies helps
prevent cancer so keep nuking and eating them.

Well, I'd think there would be wide publicity about that if it were
true, but in any case the remedy seems simple. Keep eating those
veggies, but zap 'em in a pyrex or corningware dish instead of plastic.

Personally, I zap most frozen veggies, but steam or stirfry most fresh
ones. As to boiling, that still works well for some things, such as
corn on the cob, of course, and green beans, French style.

So guys who wear lipstick are likely to have lowered sperm production?

That's reason enough for ME to swear it off! :-)
