entertaining and engaging for a while. And then --- not. (And in
fairness, I don't think she ever claimed to have a PhD -- I made a
remark about Rob's degree and that may be where the confusion came
about. Or maybe *I* missed something.)

She claimed to have an advanced degree. Then said she was a general
surgeon.

i've done that with a couple of things, but i'm not that inventive a
cook. but i'd guess 90% percent of us write in cookbooks.

Actually, I hate to see writing in books of any kind, didn't even write in
textbooks while in school. But I have a fair number of Post-It notes stuck
on appropriate pages in cookbooks.

Ditto! I don't even dog ear pages - I was trained too well
in elementary school on how to "take care" of books that
didn't belong to me... so now that I own them, I still take
care of them in the same way.

nothing wrong with that. but now you own them, so you take notes in
them because then they're handy. (actually, i'll write in my
dictionary too, they're both sort of tools...)
