Default Anyone remember Jack Curry?

He posted here a long time ago. Passed away on 01/29 peacefully, in his
sleep.

Yes, I do remember Jack, but didn't know much about him. I'm very sorry to
hear of his passing. Was he elderly?

Yes, I do remember him posting, though it's been some time since I saw the
name. Had he been ill? I'm assuming (bad thing to do, I know) that since
you know about this, you had kept in touch with him as a friend. If so, my
condolences for your loss, and for his family as well.

Nope, he was neither ill nor elderly - mid 50's. He had just had a clean
bill of health from his doctor last week and on Saturday afternoon he had a
massive heart attack. His wife performed CPR, but couldn't revive him. He
was such a great, kind man with an incredible knowledge of food.

He will be missed.

RIP, Mr. Curry!

Now that's a name I haven't heard in quite a while. Sorry to hear

Jack was a much more frequent participant on alt.food.barbecue of late
than here. For those interested, there are a number of discussions on
that group as well.

I remember him, too. Does anyone know if the family has requested donations
to any particular charity/organization?

Small, perhaps inappropriate, question--how can one die peacefully in your
sleep yet die of a massive heart attack?

Was my mistake - heart attacks are not pleasant. Not sure if his family has
requested any particular donations.

Instant death. Never know what hit you. Don't even wake up. Could be
worse. Hard on the survivors, though.

A guy from afb sent me a note shortly afterwards. I was shocked. I'd
just had a great conversation (electronic) with him. So sad.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.

A little ischemia, a little arrhythmia, no blood to brain while asleep,
poof. Happened to my very old aunt, happened to a young patient of mine
(well, 40's) while napping in the tub. It is my personal vote for number
2 way to die. My number one is to be such a threat I'm killed in a car
bomb at age 89.

My dad was out snowmobiling with friends. They took their snowmobiles to
one of the guys' house for a couple drinks. Dad took off his helmet,
stepped off the snowmobile, and went face first into the snow. Boom.
Gone. He didn't suffer a bit.

Pnuemonia is the easiest death...slowly you just get weaker and weaker
then fall asleep, fall unconious and finally just stop breathing. I got
as far as the falling asleep stage, wasn't half bad. Takes weeks. That's
why it is refered to as old folk's friend. Getting cured was a bitch.

That's what happened to my mom. She used to work in hospital labs, and she
said the most common cause of death in hospitals is pneumonia.

So, did his wife communicate this information to someone on

She let an internet friend of ours know and asked him to pass on the news to
the rest of us on-liners.

Story of Jack - Jack bought a case of Belgian Ale for my hubby and me to
pass out in lieu of champagne for toasting when we got married in October.
He instructed that we save two bottles - one bottle to open on our year
anniversary and the other to open on our 5th anniversary. There is going to
be a world wide BBQ or grillfest in Jack's honor on this Saturday (noon West
Coast, USA time, 3 EST - 8 pm Great Britain) and we're going to most likely
open one of our anniversary beers in his honor.

Toast to you, Jack, my friend! Pork butt on the WSM on Saturday here in
Florida.

I'll stoke up a chimney of lump and fire up the WSM. I'm a "bachelor"
this week so I'll probably just do some ribs. Of course a toast to Jack
WILL be made at 3!

When I worked for Prudential processing medicare suppliment claims we had
one where a 98 year old man was shot in the testicles by his 96 year old
wife. She found him in bed with a , and I quote, 'young hussy' of 70!

A man I know and his wife went on a cruise many years ago, perhaps
30 or 35. They loved to play bridge. John picked up a dream hand and
after a couple of rounds of bidding, found himself in a Grand Slam.
When he cashed trick number 13 and proudly said: "Seven bid and made",
he pitched forward and died. Let me assure you that he died a happy
man....... I know his wife.......

That was always my problem. I taught my first wife to shoot. Then
taught a couple of lady friends to shoot.
Realizing this might be a problem, when I remarried, I did not offer
to teach my present wife to shoot. Unfortunately she had been in the
army and shot "master".

It took a bit of doing but I got my wife to come along with me to my pistol
club. She had never fired a gun in her life. She has very bad hand eye
coordination and I didn't expect her to enjoy it. She surprised me. Not only
did she like it, but she was a pretty good shot. She did better than I did.

I had a patient who drank a "fishbowl" full of whiskey at a bar for his
60th birthday. As he set it down he said "thats going to kill me", fell
over backwards, had CPR done, and lived. I admitted him and boy did he

yup, it was a sad day for a lot of us who conversed with him. Quite a
few of the regulars on afb had a commemorative BBQ day with a toast at
3:00pm EST a few weeks ago.

Ever wonder about those people who spend $2.00 apiece on those little
bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backwards...
