When I was younger, I spent a bit of time in Scotland, since my Mom came
from a small town north of Glasgow called Renton. While travelling through Argyll, I recall these huge mussell-like bivalves the locals called "Clabby Do's." My recollection is that they were the size of your forearm, or a big fist at least. Anyone ever had these? Wonder why they never show up in the Foodies media? Also, I looking for a recipe for Scotch Pies...basically round meat pies with a hole in the middle of the top crust. Eaten with Worcestershire sauce. I tried a few from the net.....but they haven't been the real deal. Doug from Massachusetts |

The Whole Foods Store is on the East side of Federal highway at about
18th Street. There is a gourmet store, Fernanda's, on the Southwest corner of Oakland Park Blvd and Federal Highway. Another on Federal Highway just North of 62nd Street (Cypress Creek Road). Used to be Carmines Prime Meats but I can't remember the new name. It's on the East side about 300 yards North of 62nd in a strip mall. Very nice French bread and bakery goodies at Croissan-Time also on the West side of Federal Highway just North of Sunrise Blvd. Across Federal from a burger joint named Fudrucker's. Sort of like going from the sublime to the ridiculous. . . but, at least you gotta cross a busy 6-lane highway! Also one on 17th Street (the causeway road) East of Federal Highway by about 10 blocks or so. It's on the North side. I think it's called the Grateful Palate or some such thing. Let your fingers do the walking. There are more, but for the moment, I'm tapped out. Pixmaker in FLL ========================== It's not the heat, it's the humidity! ========================== (...Think the humidity's bad? You should watch us vote!) |
