Default Ginger syrup?

I don't know if there's a commercial ginger syrup available. Howver,
it's not too hard to make your own. I made some very tasty ginger
syrup by peeling and cutting up some fresh ginger root, and steeping it
in a simple syrup of 1 half cup water and 1 half cup sugar over medium
low heat. It was quite adequate for my needs. Other cooks on this
forum may have more expertise on making homemade ginger syrup, though.
It has a surprising number of uses, and can be used a bit in savory as
well as sweet recipes.

I've never seen ginger flavored syrup on the market, but if you can
find whole ginger, it's easy to make, and as strong as you can
stand<G>.

Take a hand of ginger (maybe 12 ounces) and peel and slice into .5cm
circles, or chunks. Place them in a pot with 1 cup water and 1 cup
sugar. Bring to a boil, then lower to a very gentle simmer until the
syrup turns a light to medium caramel color.

Remove from the heat, and strain out the pieces of ginger. Allow them
to dry somewhat, then roll in sugar to have crystalized ginger. Use
the remaining syrup for your cookie project.

There is, but the product I know only seems to be avaliable i Sweden and
Denmark... http://www.daniscosugar.com/press/re...rel.asp?id=318

It's great, I use it for... everything, or well, I would if I weren't trying
to cut down on sugar :-)

Perhaps if you can find a store that sells scandinavian stuff?
