First let me say I have found so many wonderful recipes over the years, that this is the first place I turned to to find out from all the knowledgeable folks who post here, the best source for heart healthy recipes? Thanks, in advance, Judith |

If it's not long after, you'll want a lot of protein so your body can repair itself. After a serious trauma, protein is the most important macronutrient, and a bypass is a most serious trauma, indeed. Mine was. Pastorio |

Not personally knowing anyone who has undergone such surgery, can you give us any progression of recovery stages that he might expect? He is 55. Thanks, Wayne |

If your SO sticks to what the doctors recommend he'll be fine and dandy. He's now out and about doing all the things he used to do. Just make sure your SO continues to take whatever meds are required and not over-do. The doc can tell your SO what is okay and what isn't. Jill |

Thanks for the protein recommendation. We are looking at two weeks post-op
this coming Tuesday. I have been doing low fat, no sodium, high fiber and now will raise the protein. I know about AHA cookbooks, thanks, and have the latest from the local library. Was hoping for some recipes someone had personally tested - reading back over my request I see I wasn't too clear about what I was searching for. Thanks, for the responses. JM |

Thanks, for the responses. > JM I can tell you one AHA recipe that I love, but not knowing where you live I'm not sure how readily you can find catfish fillets ![]() mild white fish for this. 6 catfish fillets (about 6 oz. each) 3/4 c. nonfat buttermilk 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. red pepper sauce (I used more than this of Tabasco) 3 oz. fat free low-salt whole wheat crackers, crushed 1 Tbs. lowfat margarine, melted Vegetable cooking oil spray 2 Tbs. shipped fresh parsley lemon wedges Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly spray a 13X9" baking dish with cooking spray. Rinse the fish and pat dry. Combine buttermilk, salt and hot pepper sauce in a small, shallow dish [like a pie pan]. Put cracker crumbs on a plate. Dip the fillets in the buttermilk mixture, then in crumbs, coating evenly. Put fillets in baking dish. Drizzle with margarine and lightly spray with vegetable oil spray. Bake, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes or until fish flakes easily when testing with a fork. To serve, sprinkle fish with parsley and garnish with lemon wedges. Jill |

When my late- ex-husband had his first surgery (6 grafts) at 34 (!!!)
I developed what came to be known as "Stir-Fry Ubiquitous". It was the only way to fill up his lean, mean 6' 2" frame with only 4 ounces of meat a day. Meat was lean whatever and varied vegetables - crunchy and colorful with as much steamed rice as he could hold. He had a second surgery (3 more grafts) at 41 and was dead before 50 . . .. ate well but wouldn't quit smoking. His recovery from the first surgery was rapid. The second one was tough due to a nasty infection at one of the veinous graft sites. We were divorced several months before the second surgery. Wishes and prayers for your success. Lynn from Fargo PS: Buy him a puppy - it'll make him walk. |
