Default Does SloppyJoe Sauce have to be Red?

So I got a plate of hamburger, onion, mushrooms in a reduced sauce of the
defatted juice left from cooking a brisket in a crockpot....A loverly
dark brown Sauce. If I was allowed bread I'd call it Sloppy Joe. What do
you call it?

It sounds good, but I wouldn't call it a sloppy joe. I've never had any with
mushrooms, and it's always contained either catsup or chili sauce
(preferably), onion, and green pepper.

Reminds me of an open-faced sandwich I used to get at a local restaurant in
Ohio. It was served over toast. Don't remember what they called it.

Alan will eat mushrooms in *anything*. Sloppy joes don't have mushrooms and
yes, the sauce is red!

Swap the mushrooms for celery, thicken the sauce a bit, and it sounds like
the beef crumble that my school used to serve over (instant) mashed
potatoes.
