I keep trying to find new "veggies" my small parrot might like. I just
bought a container of alfafa sprouts and she doesn't seem thrilled with them. So, any ideas what I can do with the remainder? Maybe add to a stir fry with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and broccoli? NOTE: I don't like cold food, i.e. salads, cold pita-bread sandwiches, etc. Might just throw them out for the wild birds. They might be more appreciative than Peaches is. Jill -- I used to have a handle on life...but it broke off. |

Sprouts are usually used in sandwiches and salads; can't think of any other way, unless, like what Mr. Fromage (that name still cracks me up!) suggested - garnish. kili |

Sprouts can be of all types of seeds... I like sprouted mustard seed, very good in tomato-y soups, adds a nice bite. Sheldon |

And I've tasted other kinds of sprouts that I like better than alfalfa sprouts (there used to be a sprouts lady at our local farmer's market...I think she had broccoli sprouts? something like that). But alfalfa sprouts? Yeccch. Can't stand 'em. For a while (late 80's, early 90's?), you couldn't buy a turkey or veggie sandwich without a tangled mess of alfalfa sprouts on it. Annoying. I say, feed 'em to the squirrels, Jill. Chris |

I ate at a sort of "hippy-dippy" place once up near Ojai. It was lunch and I ordered a cheeseburger, but their stuff had all kinds of organic things so the burger came with alfalfa sprouts. I figured what the heck and ate it but it was like eating grass. Yuck! I am not a horse. (A pig maybe, but not a horse. ;-)) Anyway, your bird has good taste. ;-) Kate -- Kate Connally “If I were as old as I feel, I’d be dead already.” Goldfish: “The wholesome snack that smiles back, Until you bite their heads off.” What if the hokey pokey really *is* what it's all about? |

There are mixed stories about whether or not citrus seeds are toxic but no, I've never removed the seeds and Freya usually goes after those first! <G> Same for whole peppers. That sits on top of her old cage (which is in her aviary) and I still stuff on top of it. Like really good catnip for a cat! I do give her millet sprays, and I get her parakeet "honey sticks" too! She loves the bird treats. A cheap way to go is to get those Bell shaped seed balls sold for wild birds. I don't give her those all the time as I prefer to restrict her sunflower seed allowance. She also likes walnuts.
