Default curiosity in the ethic aisle

The gf and I had an "WTF is this for?" yesterday at the market. In the
section of Central and South American products, we saw a bag af
dehydrated sardines,. Out of curiosity we got a bag because we figured
it would be good broken up in salads. Question: Are dried sardines a
big thing in Central and South America? Or dd some processing company
see a couple of gringas coming??
