Default Penzeys is coming to Portland

My wife (and, probably, everybody else whose address they have on file)
got a postcard recruiting her for the prospective Penzeys. So, I googled
it. I expected they'd be on the west side with the technoyuppies or in
the new yuppie preserve north of downtown. Much to my surprise they've
leased space in Clackamas Town Center, which is delightfully convenient.
I haven't been able to find out how soon they're opening, but if they're
soliciting employees, it can't be more than a couple of months. We'll
never be out of vindaloo again. Life is Good.

If you're not in the northwest and bitch about this post being geocentric,
I'll know you're just jealous.

Sorry, leaving out the state was annoyingly geocentric.

The wet one, in Oregon.

Like I need another reason to head South, yay! Now I can stop being
jealous of people in Minnesota... ;-)

If Portland has a Penzeys, can Seattle be far behind? Those of us in
the cobalt blue, upper left hand corner of the continental US can hope.

Dinner ce soir, chers, will be Cajun-style dirty rice with the dregs of
the Joe's Stuff (from New Orleans School of Cooking). Anyone ever try
Penzeys' Cajun seasoning?

Yes. It's ok, but not significantly better that the stuff that Sam's club
sells. Or make your own Essence (BAM). I can't figure out why Penzy's puts
salt as the first ingredient in many of their blends.

We cares! What with Indian, Mexican, and Oriental spices available at
every corner mom n' pop grocery, produce stand, and supermarket, who
needs 'em?.

Sounds like the strategy of the big box stores in my area. Find land
to rent cheap, and THEY will come - even if the store is an hour away.

Yes! This drives me nuts as well. IMO, no spice blend needs salt. If
I want salt, I'll add salt.
