Nitpicker. I always add where I get a recipe from. I'm NOT going to
google every recipe I have to find the determinate original site it
came from. If you dont' like it take a hike.

Looks to me that mom has given credit to her source. If you want the
origin, you Google for it.

It's helpful if you put the source in the "Recipe by" line at the top of
the recipe. It'll spare you some nitpicking.

And I doubt that Dimitri is going to take a hike. He's been here for
years, and is a very valued poster.

NOT crossposted as the original was-
Sooooooooooo.. what part of that recipe made it "Amish"??
I have a recipe that actually is tasty and doesn't require a can of
cream of anything soup, but I don't claim it's Amish either....

8 pork chops
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tsp salt
1 tsp celery seed
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/3 cup vinegar
1 cup water

brown chops. mix remaining ingredients and pour over chops.
Cover and bake 275 for 2 hours.

Well, that's obviously a DUTCH recipe, so you SHOULDN'T claim that it's
Amish. Here's a similar recipe of mine:

4 pork chops
2 green bell peppers
bottle of chili sauce
3 tablespoons prepared mustard
small can of pineapple chunks

Brown chops. Cut up peppers into fairly large chunks and add to pan with
chops. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over chops. Cover and bake 275
for 2 hours.

I think I'll attribute it to the Phoenicians. :-)

Methinks that it just *might* be to SPAM us all with that big oven
website at the bottom of each and every post?

Just a thought.

These posts are from Helen Peagram, who has been posting here and in RFR
for as long as I've been on Usenet. She just likes to share, and she has a
zillion and a half recipes. Not sure why she's posting under three
different names, though.

Probably. But, that big oven program is relatively new. Could be
that she's somehow connected with promoting it? Especially with the
three posting names and all of the floods of (in my opinion, not so
good) recipes all containing the link to the big oven website?

Some folks get one group, some another. It's easier to crosspost so
everyone can share them

Ah, that's easy to explain. I was trying to save some bucks and went
to a free server and they limit posting. So on Google Groups, I have
3 or more accounts and used each one to post until I finally got fed
up and went back to my cheap news server.

Oh? I'm supposed to remove part of the recipe export so no one can
import
it? I don't work for Big Oven. I just use their software. But, I DO
like
it.

As a die-hard Nederlander, I am hard pressed to figure out what you see that
makes that recipe so obviously Dutch? Tot ziens, Rand

You're certainly getting a lot of flack over this! Sheesh. No good

Lots of people post recipes with Meal Master attribution. Sometimes
the programs automatically attach the credit when the recipe is
exported.

The free e-mail services put advertising on outgoing mail too (eg.
Yahoo). Jeans put the brand name etc. One can hardly avoid it! I'm
waiting for genetically-engineered babies with a trademark birthmark
being born: "Crystal Melissa Smith, a product of Mansinto
Corporation"

Ah... Helen, of course I recognize! I have obtained recipes from her on
request before.
Those other names with the same repetitive recipe each time I don't. I
still dislike people posting the entire contents of their recipes files
here, though. And crossposting...blech!

I dunno, we have a lot of other stuff going on that's not productive
(eg. the smoker's argument ;>). At least her posts are recipes.

Every so often this happens. There were complaints a few years ago
too when a then-active participant in rfc posted a lot of Indian
recipes.

But if one were looking for a particular recipe via dejanews, it would
appear no matter what group. The same repeated recipe done in triplicate
gets.. well... annoying?

continue on through the rest of the alphabet? Will everyone just start
posting reams of recipes and crosspost them? Is this productive? Just
asking...?

I'm glad that I've done that during fits of insomnia. I lost my entire
recipe collection (and my mom's) awhile back, and everything's there in
Google. I've gotta save this stuff to disc.

Perhaps there is a newsgroup on USENET for just such purposes? One that
has no actual traffic, yet will provide the archives for later use? I
myself have become a convert to online back up services.

I wasn't doing it in order to archive the recipes. I did it to share them.
The archival was just a happy side-effect. For some reason, a lot of
people like my recipes.
