Hi,
a branch of my very old lemon tree had broken off and I am now left with about 8 kgs of lemons, half of them still green (I had to take off more from the remining tree, to ease the weight). My questions, will the green ones still ripen and who would want such an amount of lemons? In our area most people have their own tree and the foodbank can't deal with fresh produce? Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance, Stef |

Either you're very misinformed, or a troll. Green lemons are NOT "limes." LIMES are LIMES. If you've ever tasted a lemon and a lime you'll know how silly you are. |

Apparently citrus only ripens on the tree: http://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/solver/faq.html http://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/solver/color.html (I'd write an e-mail to those people and ask what to do with green lemons. Maybe they'd answer even if you're not a customer.) Sue(tm) Lead me not into temptation... I can find it myself! |

Lemons do very little ripening once they're picked... juice the ripe ones and freeze them in icecube trays. You can freeze lemon zest too... then you can use them later when the tree's stopped fruiting. -- ~Karen aka Kajikit Crafts, cats, and chocolate - the three essentials of life http://www.kajikitscorner.com |

Just thaw some out and make lemon curd, or any number of lemon flavored baked stuff...cookies, pies, cakes. You can even freeze grated lemon for future baking - spread out on a cookie sheet and freeze, then dump into a freezer container or a Ziploc bag. If you freeze the juice, make sure to freeze it in usable quantities, like 2 T. (lemon-cubes - use an ice-cube tray) or 1/4C. amounts, or whatever. After freezing, you can also dump them into a Ziploc bag. N. |
