Default OT : Oprah lies again

Oprah does a lot of good works, but she also has told many versions of
her early pregnancy and giving birth. Today she gave back-flip of her
hand and said, "I don't know, I've never been pregnant". I have heard
her on earlier shows saying that she had a baby at an early age (12 or
13) that was (version #1) "born dead" or (version #2) "died later".
Now, according to her, it never happened at all.
Moral: Don't lie on TV. It will catch up with you.

It sounds as though she has in fact tripped herself up, but what precisely
was she referring to this time? The only version I've ever heard was that
she had a child at a very early age, a child who died very young. If you
say to me "you know what it's like to get up each night for feedings", if
I've never experienced that I might say "I don't know I've never had a
child." without going into all the painful details of my life.

You know, Oprah has done a lot of good stuff with her money so I can forgive
her a few little fibs and transgressions. Boy, if Paris Hilton had
flip-flopped like this, I'd really be ****ed off. LOL.

What does it matter, really? In the grand scheme of things?

I dunno. My impression was that she kept the pregnancy a secret after being
raped by some uncle, and that when she finally had to tell her father she
was so traumatized she miscarried. I wouldn't classify it as a normal
pregnancy and I don't know the context of her comments. If what I construed
is true, I forgive her.

It was marked "OT" as in "off-topic". If you didn't want to read it you

I have to disagree with that. I think most(all) of us have told a lie at
some point. Does that mean we are all devoid of integrity?

Most of us aren't on national television. However, I agree with another
assessment that there are different degrees of being a mother. She may
never have had to deal with what was said in the context of the show (and I
don't know, I didn't see it) so her statement may have been true in that
regard. OTOH, I don't watch Oprah and really don't care if she's been a
mother or not.

Don't you mean "celebrities who earn more than all posters
combined"?

Most of us have told a lie or stretched the truth in cases like "Honest
officer, I thought I was doing only 45". OTOH, when you are telling lies to
further your career, make money you could not otherwise, or make others
think you are something you are no for the same reasons, you have no
integrity.

Most of our politician, for instance, have none.

Honest to God, this is a whimsical question. I don't know how to state it
so it'll come across that way, though. Truly, I was chuckling as I
thought, "It's okay to lie when in assists you in breaking the law?"
Please don't take this as a challenge or a put-down. I'm a little punchy
right now, and I just thought the example was hilarious. I'm sure it won't
be funny if/when I get a good night's sleep.

Actually she said that she doesn't have kids, or never had kids.
That's different from saying she's never gave birth. The baby she had
at 14 died, and I doubt she would try to lie about it since she talked
extensively about it in A&E's biography which was the highest rated
show in the history of A&E

It is sort of funny, but most all of us have done it. Yes, it is breaking
the law, but no, it does not cause anyone else physical or financial harm.

Most of us consider ourselves law abiding citizens, but yet we will drive 5
or 10 mph above the posted limit.

Not me. What I said the other night was, "Oh gosh -- I was going with
the traffic flow." What he really wanted to know was if I was belted in
(I was, as is my habit) -- he SAID so -- but he could only stop me for
a moving violation. Gave me a warning for the speeding and I thanked
him for his consideration. If I'd had a jar of jam in the car, I'd have
given it to him. :-)

Chokecherry Jelly/Certo

Recipe By : posted to rec.food.cooking by Barb Schaller 6/16/2005
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Canning, Preserves, Etc.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
3 cups chokecherry juice
6 1/2 cups sugar
1 bottle liquid fruit pectin (Certo) -- (2 foil pouches)
1/4 tsp. almond extract (optional)

Pour juice into large kettle. Add sugar and stir to mix. Place over
high heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Stir in pectin,
bring to a full rolling boil and boil hard 1 minute, stirring
constantly. Remove from heat and stir and skim for 5 minutes. Add
extract. Seal in hot jars. Makes about 9 half pints. Note: Almond
extract gives a stronger cherry taste.

Note: 9/15/92: Made half a batch using about 1 cup potent chokecherry
juice and 3/4 cup commercial cherry blend juice (Dole) with 3-1/4 cups
sugar and one pouch Certo. Clear and beautiful! Worked fine! Able to
cook it up in 3-quart Farberware saucepan. Made 4 half pint jars.

Slow down if you're in MN. We've been put on notice that until July 6,

3 pounds rhubarb
3 Tablespoons minced fresh ginger

and pectin; cook over high heat, stirring constantly until mixture
reaches a full rolling boil (can not be stirred down). Add sugar all at

That is not correct. There are many a few examples:

Bob Johnson founder Black Entertainment Television- $3 billion

Michael Lee-Chin(yes he's black) owner AIC Mutual Fund Investment
Company

Oprah

Do a search under "black billionaires".

I never gave much credence to her abuse claims - who's to know, after
all - I thought it was just a play for more attention and sympathy.
But then, I can't stand to watch/hear/see the woman, myself.
Regardless of the "good works," I think she's basically an egotistical
self-centered you-know-what. And that's just for starters.

Someone should clue her in on what being descended from a "Zulu" really
means, given their history in Africa.
