Default recipe software

I'm looking for software to organize my recipes. What are some of the good
ones? What are some of the bad ones I should avoid?
Thanks, Elaine

Do you have Access and or Excel? Unless you're already an Access
user, the learning curve would be big time overkill for this type
of project. You can accomplish the same sorting, searching and
manipulating with a spreadsheet (Excel or probably others).

I'm trying to think what you would mean by "organize". If you
want a relatively simple "electronic card file" that's sortable
by name, type of course, main ingredient, prep time, etc., then
that's easily done with a spreadsheet. If you're looking for
some miraculous whiz-bang graphical hoo hah that does gawd knows
what, then you're on your own! :-)

I've been using this freeware program for several years and think it is
the best program ever. I have several others that I've purchased and
they don't hold a candle to this one, if you just want to keep track of
your own recipes. I have mine divided into different catagories and
even used it to write and format a family cookbook.

I'm not affiliated with the program in any way, but am a very happy
user

Word works for me. Creat a folder called recipes, subfolders to
organize by type and file the documents.

MasterCook or Now Your Cooking both work well. And have all the Bells
and Whistles.

Now Your Cooking is shareware Avail at WWW.FFTS.Com
MasterCook...see Amazon.com. I think SoftwareVillage.com is it's true
home but my memory sucks.

It's not a question of where he grips it!
It's a simple question of weight ratios!

A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

I like MasterCook the best between the two I've tried (the other was Now
You're Cooking!).

MasterCook 8.0 (I'm running 5.0):

Oh dear...I didn't notice that. I did, however, make a contribution
because I was so happy with it, so guess mine wasn't really "free".

There are two programs I've downloaded that I would never give up...no
matter what the cost. (Well, that's not quite true) One is AZZ and the
other is Lview.

Just my opinion...

I was looking at some recently. I liked one that costs money quite a
bit ... it is a download with a $10 version and a $30 version. Take
a look at http://www.bigoven.com/ . It is a complete and varied
program with lots to like. (Try the free trial download).

Another one, on the other end of the spectrum is simple, good enough
and free. Just do a google search for "regi deans recipes" without
the quotes to find a download site. Or go here to see the author's
site for download:
http://www.homeplansoftware.com/recipe.htm

I found Big Oven head and shoulders above all other programs that I
looked at, even in the $10 version. Nice options like "find all
recipes with almonds and cheese in them". Or "create shopping list
for the recipes that I select". Or "plan week's menus". Or search
online for "crabcakes" and save the one I select in my personal
database. Also allows photos (and has many in its sample recipes).
Over 150,000 recipes that you can download and add to your database
(one by one or in groups) if desired. Many are rated by other Big
Oven users on the website.

I found Regi Dean's simple and free program much better than several
that cost money and quite good enough if all you want to do is keep up
with a couple of hundred (or more) recipes like a card file. The
categories make it easy to filter.

Good luck!

You should take a look at Shop'NCook. It allows you for example to
import easily recipes from you favorite newsgroups from the clipboard
and organize them by categories and in cookbooks. It includes also a
shopping list manager to organize your grocery shopping - not just
create shopping lists from recipes like other recipe programs.

You can download Shop'NCook at http://www.shopncook.com for a 15-day
trial.
