Default Seeded Watermelon, yellow corn, good strawberries....

After reading the posts about seeded watermelon being hard to find, I did a
very informal survey of the sources near me: supermarkets, specialty
markets, and farmer's markets. Not one seeded melon. My mom suggested that
it may not be quite watermelon season, so I'm going to check again in a
couple weeks. But I can say, I can't remember the last time I saw one.
Is this something happening everywhere? Or just here?

I wish I could find the foods of my youth Watermelons at least 2 feet
long with crisp crimson interiors and easy to find big black seeds. Corn
that is *yellow* and tastes like, well, corn. Strawberries that tasted like
something meant for Gods...sweet, slightly tart, juicy...and when they were
that deep dark red color you knew they would be good. Now, all the
watermelons are seedless and pale pink, and more often mushy/grainy than
crisp and juicy. Corn is white, overly sweet, with no corn flavor. And
strawberries, well, they're just hit and miss. I've bought some that looked
perfect. Deep color, beautiful, looked like they were at their peak of ripe
perfection...and they tasted like nothing. Watery, mildly tart-sweet. It was
like they were dyed. Yuck.

I can't wait to go to MN and WI in August, where I will happily dine on
yellow corn from my Aunt and Uncles farm!

wuz just at superwalmart down the hill, they were selling yellow corn and
both seedless and seeded watermelons. The roadside strawberries are
done. The roadside corn was good, but was from Indiana. Don't know
where the walmart corn was from.

like I said in my original post, about a week or so ago, once the public
began demanding watermelon without seeds, the flavor left the
watermelons....here in SoCal we can purchase fresh peaches, apricots,
watermelons in November-January, from the lands below the equator that have
the opposite seasons. I've tried the stuff and it just doesn't taste right
to me. Grapes are now available from Chile in March, they taste like mush
and have a plastic sort of skin. I don't buy grapes until September -
October, and don't get me started on finding good apples!

Speaking of peaches...

I bought a few pounds worth of peaches and nectarines at the Farmer's
marketon Sunday and I have to say...WOW! They are the best I've found in
forever. Last year it seemed like they were all bland, sickly sweet with no
flavor, mushy and prone to fast rotting. These ones are so good, here it is
only Monday and we only have 4 left!
