Holy crow. I made the 'spicy chicken tortilla soup' to clear out my
sinuses, plus to have something to snack on around here that isn't chips and candy. I'm not much for measuring. For this reason when the recipe called for hot sauce, I just winged it (no pun intended), forgetting that I was replacing the chicken with hot Italian sausage. (laugh) The first spoonful just about threw me across the room. Happy now? Got your cleared out sinuses. Only one thing will do. Ice cream with dulce la leche. I'll be all better in no time. nancy |

What are you going to do with the remaining gallon of soup? <EG> BTW: Thanks for providing a moment of Three-Stooges level comedy! I can just see the steam venting from your ears as your face turns thermometer red with that first spoonful. The Ranger |

I've had similar results.
I use Tapatio brand hot-sauce on darn near everythig. No problem with "heat". But, when I put a few drops in a 4q pot of soup, I had HEAT !! Could cooking bring out the fire in this stuff ? You know, I wonder, because I didn't put *that* much in ... maybe 3 shakes. Funny, after having the soup for lunch ... it had chile peppers, also I added some green peppers, Italian sausage, onions, garlic ... guess what ron brought home for dinner? Sausage and peppers with italian bread. It was like my lunch, only not burning hot. nancy |

Probably it isn't the cooking, but the liquid: the same amount of ground red hot cayenna pepper makes a certain effect on a dish of pasta, but makes much more effect in a dish of soup or broth/stock. -- Vilco Think Pink , Drink Rose' |
