Default I love it when several meals come together

Last night I grilled a Harris Ranch steak and some mushrooms for
dinner. I can never eat an entire steak (and I never seem to get to
the market when the butcher is still there to order a steak fresh cut
small enough for me, so I'm always buying out of the
cut-and-packaged-that-day counter). So, this morning for
breakfast, I sauteed an onion and had a steak, onion, mushroom, and
double cream gouda omlette with a slice of Como bread toast and some
semi-fresh Ranier cherries and blueberries.

Perfect two meal combo.

Now, off on a day trip down the Kenai Penninsula for a kayaking day
trip.

Nothing like a hearty breakfast to prepare you for a long Alaska summer
day. One thing I miss about Alaska, especially at breakfast, is the
reindeer sausage. Don't get too close to the whales in your kayak.

I wish I'd seen one, but not on this trip (although a few weeks ago, I
did see some belugas on the drive back up). I did see a single seal
swimming in the harbor. Just a little head bobbing along. At first I
thought it was an otter (*much* more common), but then I realized it
wasn't facing the right direction (otters float on their backs, so
their faces are looking towards their tails) and it wasn't hairy. Saw
lots of eagles (several mature and juvenile bald and a few golden) and
there was a Stellar Jay that gave us quite a show when we took a break
on a small "beach". I think he was looking for a snack, and he got
rather annoyed with us when we didn't share. He stood on a driftwood
branch above the kayak and squawked --loudly -- at us while we ate our
granola bars (there's an on-topic portion, they were homemade bars).
Got relatively close to a couple of otters, but nothing like the slew
of them that we saw last weekend in another part of the state.

On-topic moment -- late dinner at Apollo's restaurant in Seward. I
split a bowl of excellent cioppino with a friend after an appetizer of
"Greek style brueschetta" and a glass of white wine. Excellent end to
a perfect trip.

Alexis.
