Default OT - A message from Greg Zywicki

Greg hasn't posted here for a while. It seems that he's been banned
from posting via google because someone got their knickers in a twist
about an OT post he made here several months ago. He's asked me to
apologize for his offense. This is it. He's sorry.

Greg's a nice guy. That someone reported him to google for doing once
what a boatload of others continue to do here regularly and frequently
boggles my mind. And he regrets that he wasn't able to address his
transgression on group and apologize in this forum.

What the hell? That's ridiculous. And, unless I'm mistaken, I haven't
seen him post anything offensive so this is uncalled for. Tell him
to find a way to get back here. He sure doesn't owe me any apology.

Sheesh... what could he have said that's worse than anything that I've said at

This is crazy, I do not remember anything he has said that was so awful. This
newsgroup has had people make comments all the time and not get into trouble.

Since people don't pay to use google, they have a very hardass policy
towards spamming, trolling and off-topic posting in general. They'd
rather can people when complaints come in than deal with it.

It should be noted that most ISPs forbid off-topic posting to usenet
groups. It's just that few will take action for relatively innocuous
instances, because they don't want to get rid of paying customers.
Google doesn't have that problem.

Nothing against Greg, but the idea that he has been banned from posting for
a single off-topic post really stretches the imagination. And even if he was
it would take about 5 minutes to find another way to post. This story just
does not hold water.

You gotta be kidding. The following is the only thing I could find by
Greg that was even off-topic (except when he replied to someone else's
OT bullshit.) BTW, I didn't use Google to search jic they had expunged
his post; a server that I don't use very often still has almost 100000
active messages for r.f.c.

There's got to be more to this, something we're not being told. ISPs do not
investigate reports of mere OT posts, especially not to UNmoderated
Newsgroups... if ISPs zapped accounts for mere OT posts there'd be no Usenet...
this in fact is an entirely OT thread and we're all still here. And in fact
ISPs are far more likely to investigate the Newsgroup Police Complaintants,
especially the Serial Complaintants. So Barb, did Greg Zywicki contact you
via email? If he did than he has internet access, and if he has internet
access he can subscribe to Newsgroups. Perhaps he never really had his own
ISP, he could have been using his employer's account, as is true with most
Googlers, Hotmailers, any freebie accounts... perhaps he no longer has access
to his employer's account, that sounds more like the *real* deal. This story
smells funny (fercocktah funny)... kinda like boiled BEETS... now we're back on
topic.

These Serial NetKKKoppers are the *lowest* form of scum - and in the long
run their devious ways *always* come back to haunt them....sometimes with
*real life* repurcussions....

A few years back one of these Serial NetKKKoppers (on a travel group) got
hers and but *good*. Several folks got tired of her scumbaggery ways (phony
compaints to their ISP's, etc.) and it eventually led to her being fired
from her job....

Which is why as a Usenet "archive" Google sux...AFAIK Deja (and also Remarq)
*never* engaged in censoring of anyone's posts....

A coupla years ago I happened to question someone's veracity on a travel
group and as a result of her complaints Google completely erased about nine
months of my postings on *every* group I had posted on. Doesn't matter to
me <shrug/>, but as a policy it's a pretty lame SOP.

*All* Usenet posts (including Sheldon's) should be permanently archived. I
like Google and it's many useful utilities but their half - azzed and hare -
brained Usenet "policies" are really something of a laffin' stock....

Boy do I really miss Deja and Remarq....

Why wouldn't he use a real news reader and a real ISP?
Google isn't the easiest way to read your ngs on a regular

How does he know that google banned him and it's not just a
glitch in the system? Why doesn't he post through his ISP
using a real news reader? I'd never consider using Google
as my main news source.

His ISP didn't zap him. He posted to news via Google and Google zapped
his ability to do so.

I think you're wrong. I believe that the cs.com in his mail address
stands for compuserve. I also think your speculation about using a free
mail account is hooey. I don't know why he chose to use google for
posting to groups. zxcvbob posted the post that got him bounced and it
includes his mail address.

I said PERHAPS, you do know the definition of PERHAPS... speculation is not
hooey, it's speculation... what's hooey is YOUR posting soap operish
DRIVEL... as if it were important... NOT!

I seriously doubt a single soul gives a flying F if Greg can post to google or
not. IT'S NOT IMPORTANT... certainly not important enough that you would
choose to abash folks for replying to YOUR fercocktah post... hey, you don't
like replys, DO NOT POST!!!

>I don't know why he chose to use google for

So, he has an ISP (Compuserve) and can send email (COULD HAVE POSTED HIS OWN
HOGWASH HIMSELF) and post to any Newsgroup at will and can tell us his
GRATUITOUS problems himself... which is essentially what I had said
previously... so then why do we need to know about his personal Google episode
through a third party... this thread is pure sillyness...must be a pickle hat
stroke.

Ahahahahaha. . . .

They don't have to let anyone use their service, but they have set
themselves up as *the* defacto archive of usenet, and they have some
responsibility to keep the archives accurate. They are way too quick to
purge messages from the archives that were *not* posted using their
posting service.

The archivist of a public forum has a responsibility to keep an accurate
history -- warts and all.

You're right. I thought perhaps you were being sarcastic in your use
of the word. "-) My bad.

Sweetie, it's no more drivel than some of the stuff you post. As to its
importance, it rang your bell enough that you chose to remark on it
rather than ignore it.

Abash?

Sheldon, I can't imagine ANYONE making you feel ashamed, embarrassed, or
uncomfortable. <grin>

The word is "replies". "-)

Hey, I'm not stroking any pickle hats -- that was Kramer who took those
pictures!

Sorry to be coy - I've been busy for a few days and couldn't respond.

First off, Praise be to Google for their service, and for benevolently
removing the "hold" on my account.

Yeah, I'm piling it on a bit thick. But seriously, it's their ball,
and they're letting me play again. I'm not going to complain. They
were within their rights.

All I know is that they put a hold on me due to excessive complaints
about OT posting. They only reffed the Dean post, and gave no info as
to whether Many people put in one complaint or one person put in many
complaints. Or one person masqueraded as many. Or if trilaterallist
deaniacs ran code from a WIFI network in their black helicopters to
spam google.

I'll have to leave you unsatisfied as to why I use a crappy free
service instead of the compuserve that I pay for (although, I gotta
say Compuserve has a pretty lame newsreader, and I vaguely recall it
being a pain to use popmail type set up. Thanks in advance for the
tips I'll get on this, but there's no need. I'll keep up this way.)

So, thanks for all the goodwill, and remember folks - if someone
tweeks you the wrong way, call them on it publicly first. Some people
(like me) might actually respect your complaint. You can always move
on to other methods later.

Socialist? Admitting I'm a little late to the -- erm -- Party, I
gotta say that your use of our language is rather too fast and loose
to lead to useful political discussion. (Here I'm assuming that
anything of the kind is your desire)

If you think that Dean is a socialist, then it's unlikely you'd
recognize a real socialist were he in your pants, braiding your pubic
hair.

OBFood: I'm thinking of some sort of South Beach version of smoked
ribs for tomorrow or the next day. Is this possible? (Yup, I cook
barbecue, too.)

what, was he accused of biting heads from live chickens? is there a
web site where we can learn of his 'offenses'?
