Default Bread Spreads

Tomorrow I'm serving two types of bread and I'm looking for ideas
for accompaniments in the way of compound butters or spreads.

First is a honey walnut bread. It's about 20% whole wheat flour
and it's got a mildly toasty flavor in addition to the sweetness
of the honey.

The second is a red pepper and smoked cheddar bread. It's
in the mild sourdough category, so it's chewy and slightly sour.

Any ideas? What, if anything, would you want to go along with it?

Regular Butter
Butter with Honey mixed in to bring out more of the honey flavor
in the first bread
Cream Cheese
Yogurt Cheese

I dunno, what else will be served with the bread? Beverages,
fruits, etc.?

Yup. I may just go with honey butter for the walnut bread. Simple
enough.

That's the first question to ask, isn't it? Unfortunately I have no
idea. I was hired to do just the breads. I still have no info on what
else is being served.

A good bread dunkin style soup? Say clam chowder or a chicken with rice.

Your breads sound wonderfully flavorful, so I'd keep it quite simple. For
the honey walnut bread, I'd be inclined to do a slightly sweetened honey-
butter made with sweet cream butter. For the red pepper and cheddar bread,
just plain unsalted cultured butter, since it has a bit of a tang.

I completely agree. Simplicity would be best, especially considering there's
already a lot going on in the sourdough/red pepper/smoked cheese bread
If I were cooking for myself that's exactly what I'd do.

I've been thinking about those breads, and wish I had some right now!

And if you were in my vicinity you could have some. I've got tons
right now (well, in a few hours anyway).

I'm not in Phoenix, but that is my cat's name (really).

That's a great name for a cat! Well, good luck with all that bread and
have a great weekend.

I would go with contrasts. For a sweet bread, try something tangy. I'd
probably have some blue cheese with that. For the pepper and cheddar, the
blue cheese would overwhelm it. I agree with the others, simple butter or
maybe plain yogurt to add a sour touch.

I'd suggest some creamy non-salted butter so as not to cover up the bread
flavors. It's not like your serving jalapeño muffins here.

The wine of your choice would be best here, can't recommend anything in
particular.

PS I'm secretly hoping someone mentions 'underwood deviled ham'

Cream cheese with the honey walnut bread. Sweet butter with the pepper cheese bread.
