I daresay that most, if not all, of the people frequently rec.food.cooking
would be here if they couldn't already cook a three course meal.

Does this mean I gotta cut back from 5?

It's not a question of where he grips it!
It's a simple question of weight ratios!

A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

Only three courses? Rather meagre at best.
And it's 'bon appetit'....

Question for the group. Really idle question, just interested
to know what people answer.

What is a three course meal? I think what I had last night
to be a three course meal. First came soup, when that was
done, away went the bowl, second course, salad and steak
fries. Third, ice cream ... oh, I mean souffle.

I've seen tv hosts describe what I would call a one course
meal as a three course meal. Say I have a pork chop, some
corn and mashed potatoes on a plate, I consider that one
course.

Just curious.

I would consider salad, an entree with vegetables, and dessert a 3-course
meal. Soup would make it four; an appetizer added would make it five.

Okay, I can see that. I hope I wasn't unclear when I said I had a salad,
maybe leaving people to think I had an entree ... that was my dinner.

Thanks.

No, you were perfectly clear, at least to me. I often have a large salad
as an entree.

AFAIK
3 courses: Soup/salad, main entree with side dishes, dessert.

5 courses: horse ovaries, soup/salad, main meat entree, main veggie
entree, desert/cheese and fruit. Various Sherberts can be added between
courses to cleanse your palete. But I'm not sure if they qualify as a
course...or as just as breaks in the meal to allow farting.

They're everyday meals. Mine are two if I'm ambitious. I usually
dispense with dessert and salad is a second vegetable.

I'm with you on this one. You had a three course meal.

My everyday meals are generally one course; last night was a chef's
salad... dessert was a bowl of chocolate peanut butter cup ice cre, I
mean frosty souffle... but it was almost three hours later so I don't
really think it qualified as a course. Maybe the gin and tonics I had
before the chef's salad qualified as a course... will have to await the
expert opinion of our resident maven of the bar, Maid Margaret.

I believe juniper berries qualify as a fruit course.

We often have three courses for everyday meals. Just as easy to prepare
three as two or one. Just a matter of being organised and having the
food on hand. A *lot* of prep/cooking can be done in the 30 minutes or
so I allot for meal prep.

LOL! But we don't *know* if the business is flying (or not). Having to
advertise on a random food newsgroup doesn't bode so well.

I believe the gin & tonics were "appetizers" You are correct, the ice
cre... uh, frozen souffle was too late to qualify as a "course".
