Hey, Barb,

Know what I just watched on the telly? A Food Channel program on ice cream
and such that ended with a piece on the St. Paul Ice Whoop-ti-do, from
cutting the blocks on the Whatever River to the aurora borealis bit with the
lights. Fantastic!

But what got me was the number of Minnie Soda guys who are willing to get
out there on that frozen river and cut the damned blocks. You lose many of
those guys?

Usually it is a lake, not a river. And you would be amazed at the weight
that 3 feet of ice can handle. So, we lose none of those guys.

Nope. Don't lose many of the guys who go ice fishing on the lakes,
either. At least not the ones with a coupla ounces of common sense.
:-0) My brother drowns worms on Lake Minnetonka (big lake just west of
the city) in January. Crappies. He's nuts. But then he's nuts the
rest of the year too, so it's not really news. '-)

It's the snowmobilers who are kinda dumb.

(St. Paul Winter Carnival, BTW). I had pictures of some of the ice
sculptures on my website last January. I've removed them since then,
though. Way cool.

-Barb, <http://www.jamlady.eboard.com> Several notes since 8/18/05,
including the Blue Ribbon Brownie Recipe and a sad note added
this evening, 8/27/05.

Oh, dumb me! Lakes, rivers, kettle ponds (here on the Cape), whatever. Glad
to hear you don't lose the ice-cutters.
