Default Memphis Helps

Confederate Park 1:00 today downtown: Show ID from affected areas from
Katrina and they're ready to serve you a free hot meal, sponsored by Clear
Channel Radio. I don't know the fixin's but I'd be willing to guess pulled
pork sandwiches, cole slaw, baked beans

C*nf*d*r*t* Park! I'm a born southerner and I can't even say the word
any more. I wonder if there's a Pearl Harbor memorial anywhere in
Japan.

It is a part of history and thee is no changing what took place. rather
than be ashamed of it, use it as an educational tool so history is not
repeated.

Trust me, there is a huge momentum to rename the ALL the parks. Like you
can or should re-write history. History is (or should be) a lesson learned.
Nathan Bedford Forrest is buried with his wife in - you guessed it, Nathan
Bedford Forrest Park. Some people want to dig up the bodies and relocate
them (at taxpayers expense) and name the park something else. Uh huh, that
will fix everything. Drives me nuts. Find something else to worry about.

Now that just doesn't make sense. Japan bombed a harbor. The only ones
they lost in that particular phase of the battle were any kamikaze pilots
who chose to go down (straight down) into the ships and subs. Why put up a
memorial for that? I'll bet there is one at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but
don't quote me, I've never been to Japan so I wouldn't know.

I'm certainly not condoning the "confederates" or the various states
withdrawing from the union, but you can't and shouldn't try to re-write
history. Stuff happened. So be it. The point was of the post was free
lunch for refugees. Purely informational. I didn't name the danged park.

I saw something on TV telling people to come to a park with ID... The
people who really needed that lunch have nothing, including an ID.

Trust me, the ones who could make it to the park for free lunch evac'd ahead
of time and had ID.

Wasn't criticizing, just musing. The ironies were just too great.
Confederate Park. IDs required. Clear Channel Radio sponsoring. Guess
you'd have to be a Memphisianite to catch 'em all. Your paragraph was
so loaded I thought it was written by Ambrose Bierce or Mark Twain.

Fortunately or unfortunately history is rewritten everyday and neither
you nor I will know what our story will eventually be. Let's just hope
science doesn't get rewritten. Then we'll have to review the Son of
Sam's defense that "a dog made me do it."

FEMA will probably claim they were trying to issue them.

True. Memphis got the early evacuees, who probably drove here with some
sort of identification. I haven't seen where we've received any of the
dire cases. Baptist Hospital Central could have handled thousands, but
it's only rubble now. Let's hope we can get them that we do have fed
and settled down so they can try to recontruct their lives.

Clear Channel is national, not local to Memphis. But you can probably guess
which radio station I listen to

So I find myself in most excellent company! <G>

The man was obviously delusional. On the other hand, my *cat* makes me do
things every day. Like feed her; change the litter box; make sure her
Drinkwell fountain is clean and fresh. Snuggle with her and put up with her
bapping me on the nose when I don't wake up in time for her regular feeding.
So yeah, the cat made me do it! <G>
