Default Since there's so little content concerning cooking, I'll be back later

When you guys get over talking about world events and get back to cooking,
make a post that world events are longer acceptable in this newsgroup. Yes
this is usenet and you can post any damn thing that you want, but world events
and politics do not belong here.

Killfiles/filters are your friends. Just filter the word, "Katrina" and
you'll be well on your way toward better mental health.

I steamed 2 lbs. of crablegs, how's about them apples? Oh, speaking of
apples, my lovebird enjoys Gala but won't touch red delicious or granny
smith. Go figure. A friend of mine told me her geese won't eat anything
but Gala apples, otherwise they pout I have yet to see a pouting goose
(closest I've been is angry geese in Bangkok) but there you have it. And
no, I don't do foie gras.

Peaches does like carrots and while I don't, I'll add carrots to beef stew
or soup or pot roast or scrape some into whatever for colour or just
because... it's like a national pasttime or something. Same thing with
potatoes. I love baked potatoes and mashed potatoes but they aren't
essential, you know?

Then again, I kill most threads dealing with cakes, sushi, stuff I don't
eat. I could would suggest you do the same

Sorry Brick. I honestly don't remember seeing you here before, but
welcome. Yeah, I'm one of the worst offenders for off topic stuff.
But I've started trying to balance each OT post with a food post.
This mess (just kidding) is not necessarily always about food. The
current situation sort of puts everything else in it's place, so
you'll have to forgive us. Honestly, I'm not quite sure why it
bothers you because even now the ratio of OT to food posts is
ridiculously low. Selective reading may be your problem.

Brick has been around. Maybe not a prolific poster, but I've noticed
her.

I think Hurricane Katrina is a lot more interesting than the
constantant blithering about Sandra Lee. Want all food all the time?
Find rec.food.recipes.

I've been archiving stuff from RFR for a long time. What a gold mine.
I also have an RSS feed from ALLRecipes.com and run through (once a
week) the stuff from their baking, dinner, entertaining and healthy
recipes sections. I used to hit Food network (I have most everything
from 1996-1998 archived in html format, then add the new stuff for the
last couple of years to another setup) but I've become so
disallusioned with the network and the website that I don't even
bother anymore. I have several collections in different recipe
software, the above mentioned, and hundreds of directories in various
formats (word, html, etc) of more recipes than anyone could try in a
thousand lifetimes. Why do I do this? Lord, I must need a
psychiatrist. My particular interest is in "ancient cooking" whatever
that means. I am particularly interested in 1st-2nd century Roman
food. I must have a thousand links related to this and about a 20th
as many books. I read Apicius for fun. Course, I also read the
complete works of Josephus as entertainment on the rare occasions that
I have the time. I'm sure I must be some kind of outcast demon from
another planet. I just checked a while back and (although I'm sure I
didn't find all of them) I have over 300 beef jerkey recipes. I have
huge collections of colonial cooking. It occured to me recently that
I spend a great deal more time reading about food than I do actually
cooking or eating same. I find the subject fascinating and absloutely
endless in various paths to follow. I know I make it sound like this
is all I do, but I am only able to squeeze it in now and then - over a
number of years, it has added up to quite a volume of (probably
useless) information.

I hope you've put this information on CD/DVD... I didn't even though I
could and am still kicking myself because my old computer didn't
crash, the hard drive actually died.

AlleyGator,

RFR is OK kinda/sorta but I like AllRecipes.com better because of the
recipe ratings system. Folks always sound off with good criticisms,
suggestions, etc.

Imho,

I actually did that... <sigh>
Nearly every list I am on is discussing the hurricane disaster.
I did subject killfiles for Katrina, new Orleans and hurricane.

Cleaned up the list rather well.

I do care, but enough is enough!

I wouln't worry about it, Hubert. Write about whatever you want to. Most
people here do. Folks can choose to read what they want to. Besides, you
weren't spamming, just contributing your thoughts.

FWIW, Brick is a *him*. He's a regular poster on alt.food.barbecue.

Just post what you want to, Hubert. Most folks think of this
like chatting over the kitchen table or something.

In that case, I recognized *him* from there - not here.

He should throw a snit fit on RFB too. What I see there are pictures
followed by a lot of "what a great picture" comments. Unfortunately,
a large percentage of those pictures are of weird beers.

RFB? WTF?

What I see there are pictures

It seems that you are referring to alt.binaries.food . While I do not
participate in that group, nor did I refer to it, what you call "weird
beers" can be qualified as food to those who enjoy them. :-) What
relevance this has to Bricker or alt.food.barbecue or rec.food.cooking
or the price of tea in China, I fail to see.
Oh well.

Either way, I don't understand the point of the whole big
announcement. So take a break until things calm down. Was
this supposed to be some sort of rebuke?

Hothead? Drama Queen. He should swig a beer and relax over his Q.

Yeah, that one. I don't do Q. He should kick back with one of those
beers and relax.
