Depends on what you like to eat and what ingredients you have. If you'd
care to elaborate I'm sure we could help you with some ideas.

Welcome. What kind of soup do you like? What part of the world or
country are you in * to make best use of seasonal ingredients. This is
a Slovak recipe.

Mom's Caraway Soup

Recipe By :Posted again to rec.food.cooking by Barb Schaller 9-28-05
Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Slovensky Recepty

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 tablespoon caraway seed
6 cups water
1 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup minced onion
2 tablespoons flour

2 eggs slightly beaten
1/4 cup milk
2/3 cup flour

Cook caraway seet in salted water for 20-30 minutes. Strain, reserving
broth. Fry onion in butter until lightly browned; stir in the 2
tablespoons of flour and brown lightly. Remove from heat and slowly add
1 cup broth to the flour mixture (zaprashka). Bring to boil, stirring
to prevent lumps and return to kettle of broth. Simmer.

Beat eggs, second portion of flour and milk together. Should be a
rather heavy batter. Cut little bits from plate with rubber spatula
into simmering broth. Cook 2 minutes.

Serving Ideas : Al says toasted French bread is good with this. Dunno.

NOTES : Made half a recipe on 3/9/01 as a trial run for the Scarborough
dinner on 3/16. I'd forgotten how good this is. Browned the onion very
slowly -- don't hurry it. Wound up pouring all the broth into the
skillet -- small enough quantity enabled it.

Am thinking that for 12 servings, I'll triple most of the recipe, but
not the batter -- maybe double only. Don't want it too thick.
