Default Do you dream about food?

Doesn't happen often but occasionally I dream about cooking food. Sometimes
it sets up the scenario for what I'll cook the next day; sometimes just a
craving for things I don't have on hand. Sometimes I just shake my head and
wonder why on earth I dreamt about a certain type of food. Do you dream
about food?

I don't think I ever dream about food. I get plenty (even too much,
according to my wife) food. Freud said dreams are all about wish
fulfillment. So I dream, like Michael, about drinking and some other
things. Don't ask about those other things, please. ;^)

Seldom and then, just sort of. I dream of food disasters that I had
at some time in the past. I dream of

The time I went to check the roast in the oven, while the guests were
having cocktails in the living room and I found that the flame I
thought was roasting the meat, had either gone out or never went on
and there was a raw slab of meat in the roaster.

The time I served Long Island Duckling, that smelled and tasted of
fish and were completely inedible. I found out later on, that the
farmer from whom the duckling had been bought, had fed the little
birds with fish heads and innards from a near by fishery.

The time my cat, Inky, just a little kitten of a couple of months,
managed to escape from the bedroom, got on the table that I had
lovingly decorated and set with my best linen and dishes, sipped the
liqueur from the fruit cups that were supposed to be our first course,
then, so drunk he probably could not get off the table, stumbled into
the waiting, empty soup tureen and fell asleep, snoring while my
guests stood around the mess and and laughed their butts off.

The time I poured the gravy for the brisket into what I thought was
the pot with the sliced meat, but which contained the broth for the
Matzo Ball Soup. That way I ruined two courses with one stroke.

Enough of all these nightmares. There are plenty more to make me
dream and wake up in a cold sweat.

Jill, did you have to remind me of these disasters, just as I am busy
starting to cook for the High Holidays, which will start on Monday
night? M

Luckily, my cooking disasters have almost always been *after* the meal in
cleaning up, things falling, breaking, etc.

These days i generally tend to dream about those things i expend a lot
on concentration on during the day. Years ago i used to dream i was a
woman giving birth to serpents but that's probly better addressed in one
of the soc.psychology groups....any way a couple of years ago i hosted a
very elaborate Christmas dinner that was 2 weeks in preparation. By the
second week i was having the type of dream where the harder you try the
behinder you get, the more i did in the kitchen the more there was to
do, the more order i brought to the kitchen the more chaos it produced.

I once had a nightmare where the food was eating me. And on another
occasion i had a dream, not frightening at all, but rather odd,
everything was made of cheese burgers, buildings, ground, trees etc.

When i first got a computer and accessed (obsessed over) the net i had
dreams that had a 'menu' and i would click on buttons to move the dream
forward or switch to another dream or scroll through various dream
scapes till i found one i liked.

Usually a whole spread of food, and I'm not hungry. Weird.

I tend to dream about food when I'm very stressed about an event I'm
cooking for going wrong or when I think my body is trying to tell me
something. The first is simple anxiety and the second is an indication
I'm deficient in a certain nutrient. I think cravings are very similar
in they are trying to tell me my body requires a certain nutrient. When
I get a craving I give into it because I tend to crave things like
broccoli or spinach. The other day I had the weirdest craving for
cranberries so I've been drinking plenty of cranberry juice. I often
crave things like yogurt and cheddar cheese. I think this is my body's
way of saying I need more calcium since I never drink milk. Sometimes I
get a very strong craving for turkey so always keep turkey pieces in the
freezer. A neat thing - I detest chocolate and have never understood
chocolate cravings - I'm just not into sweets and chocolate IMO is just
the grossest food ever! My friends just don't understand how I would
choose a large bowl of broccoli over a chocolate bar but then I don't
understand their choice either.

At the moment though, I've done so many tomatoes I can see them if I
shut my eyes but they don't haunt my dreams, thank goodness!

And you probably thought there was only one lush in the place.

Dream ?? DREAM about food ?

Nite-time is when the FatFairy comes,
and leaves a reward for eaters.......

How DOES an 8oz. bag of chips
turn into 5lb on the scale ??

Only once, and it didn't have to do with cooking; in high school I
dreamed I was being chased by a big red crab with large yellow claws.
Very unpleasant (nice of me to share, huh)... ;-)
