The local likker store has a grocery basket full of brown paper bags
labeled "Mystery 6-Packs $3.99" I bought one last week and it had a nice mix of 4 bottles of interesting premium beers, a pint can of Nottingham ale, and a can of Michelob Golden. I went back Friday and bought two more. Not as good as the first bag (these had "wine cooler" malt beverages, Busch light, Miller lite, some other forgetable beer, and a bottle of Fischer (French beer) in each one) but still a pretty good deal. Now here's the weird part. One of the bags had a bottle of Corona, I just opened it, and it's not skunked. I don't think I've *ever* had a Corona beer before that didn't have that nasty skunky flavor and smell. I guess somebody forgot to set this case of Corona out in the noonday sun to develop that signature ****-like quality. It's actually pretty good beer when you accidently get a good one. Best regards, Bob |

The best thing about Corona beer (the export stuff) is those really neat commercials! Corona - the domestic variety available in Mexico in rather good beer. Ken. |

Greetings:I myself perfer Pacifico...however they are both made by the
same company. The Corona here can have that smell, in a glass it`s worse. Some folks like the Corona as it`s not as carbonated as Pacifico. The lime slice and dash of salt mask the smell. Don in Mexico |

Don in Mexico > It wouldn't get that smell if they put it in brown bottles, or at least were careful to never let the sun hit the clear bottles, even briefly. Sunlight (or lengthy exposure to fluorescent light) reacts with the hops to make that skunkiness. That's why most beer comes in dark brown bottles. Green glass bottles are cheaper to make and look prettier, but not as effective as brown. |

I've never noticed the problem. Maybe your local distributor needs a kick in the ass from the manufacturer. |

All from Mexico with added spices, or even soy sauce. Just wondering. Karen |

I have asked around at the local bars and resturants here in Jalisco
and Nayarit states in Mexico....they don`t know anything other than salt or lime in beer. Must be elsewhere with the added spices. Don |

Must be elsewhere with the added spices. Don hm. KGO reported yesterday morning that the spicy beer was very popular in Mexico and it was being introduced to US now. They also said Corona has been the #1 import since 97 (I think), and before that it was Heinekin. Karen |

Chilling has absolutely no effect on beer skunking, as 'skunking' is an effect caused by light. Direct sunlight and some flourescent lighting can cause beer to 'skunk', or become "light-struck" that is in clear bottles. For more info see http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?cha...82809EC588ED9F |
