Default It just occured to me...

San Francisco was busy today!

Downtown: Fleet week festivities & the Blue Angels
West Side: American Express Golf at Harding Park
($1.3 million to the winner)
East Side: 49er game at Candlestick
(they're getting their butts kicked by the Colts in the third quarter)

It was absolutely glorious all day long, so I hope everyone enjoyed
the sun and mild weather (60° this morning - 65° now) at their event
of choice.

Love them Blue Angels. Such an SF tradition.

They've been doing their practice runs along the coast
for the last few days. Good thing I don't have any
sleeping children.

Where are you located, Reg? They didn't fly over my house.... god
forbid they disturb a golfer.

You near the muni golf course?

I'm two block off great highway, outer sunset district. I think
the angels stick to the coast area for noise abatement. I know
there have been complaints over the years, mostly from people
with sleeping kids, so I think they try and stay over the water
now.

And your previous post about today's activity level was spot
on. I just tried to go a few block for supplies. Gawd, it's
as bad as I've seen it. Great Highway near the parking lots
is a, um, parking lot.

Yes, it's a 10 - 15 minute walk. I didn't hear a "peep" from them.

I wondered where the golf audience found parking! Now I know.

The people bitching about the wind farms are also the ones that bitch about
using fossil fuels and global warming.

That's absolutely untrue. Wildlife organizations focus more on airpots
than all other man made structures put together... primarily the
guidance lights that mesmerize migrating birds, causing huge flocks to
fly wildly inside the strobe light columns... killing untold thousands
that can fly aimlessly until they drop out of the sky from sheer
exhaustion, not to mention the obvious threat to aircraft sucking them
into their engines. And this is of course an international problem...
US airports have gone to great lengths to alter lighting design but
most of the world's airports do nothing.

Weird, isn't it? I heard from my mother that Oregon has to hide
theirs from public view, but I like seeing wind turbines in action.

It gives me hope for the future.

I gather you've never lived in Warwick, RI Tony. North and south of
Green you pause when a plane goes over, since you can't hear yourself
talk, much less think. East and west aren't so bad, I've lived in
both directions.

As far as rain goes, we were out west of Kingston NY this weekend, and
got 11" of the wet stuff Friday night to Saturday night. The area's
clay and basalt, so there's no soil for the water to soak into.

OB Food: the chef at the site we had our conference is amazing.
Breakfast and lunch are good, but dinners are always something simple
but interesting.

OB Cookbooks: Editions, the used bookstore on Rt 28 west of Kingston,
is going out of business sometime in the next two years. Worth the
trip.

In my area (SF bay area) the small bookstores are dropping like
flies. I'm down to one decent used bookstore (Green Apple
Books, Clement St. Please shop there so they don't disappear
too).

I like Amazon a lot, they provide an important service, but
they're not a substitute for a real bookstore.

The first time I saw the wind turbines were on the north shore on Oahu. I
thought they were Christo's art. Tee hee. No Kidding!

Here in NJ, the weather was lousy all weekend. Heavy rain fell all day
Saturday, well into Saturday night. On Sunday morning, I awoke to find a
beautiful spectacle in the park outside my apartment thanks to the heavy
rain. I grabbed my camera and I shot a few photos in the park yesterday
morning and I am thoroughly impressed with these photos.

You all are welcome to look at my photos if you want. I put them on my
web server at http://tinyurl.com/ampu7 and I plan to use a few of those
photos to show in the digital photography course I am taking on Tuesday
and Thursday nights. I also saw the movie Serenity on Sunday, which I
enjoyed a lot; it has some of the best special effects I have ever seen
in a movie; its what Star Trek should have been.

Enjoyed your pictures.
Curious as to how you posted so many pictures on one link. Are there any
special hints to give others who want to post more than one picture at a
time and get one link for each pic.
Thanks,
Dee Dee

I just used my Mac with OS X 10.4.2 and iPhoto 5's export to html
feature. Takes all of two minutes to set up. What took longer is
sharpening each image so it looks presentable. The web server is one I
manage. In fact, its the same machine I am using right now to type this
message.
