Idiots that try to commit suicide with it fail initially, but a large overdose literally kills the liver. They die of liver failure in 1 to 2 weeks. Ibuprofen can be hard on the kidneys, but only if you abuse it. Drink plenty of fluid with it and you will be fine. -- Om. Stops them dead in their tracks, and also helps to relieve the irritated eyes that come with it. Love my neti-pot! Instant relief. :-) -- Om. My sinus attacks are allergy related. > I've been using saline nasal spray but nothing seems to stop them. Ooh! A neti-pot is a device for rinsing out the nasopharyngeal passages with warm saline. It washes all that crap out and feels WONDERFUl! 100% natural of course. <lol> Dr. Cohen introduced me to it. He was a wholistic ER doc that had his own private "complimentary medicine" practice. I went to him to consult on dietary supplements. I learned a LOT from him! It can be googled. I bought mine at Sun Harvest. Whole foods also carries them. It's a trick to learn to use them, but once you do, it's such a relief! I've had allergy attacks so bad, I could not function! My sinuses itched so bad I swore my face was trying to crawl away! Rinsing the allergens out with the neti pot provides instant remedy. A bottle of saline eye wash and an eye cup is also helpful for clearing the eyes. Try he http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...9-1&q=neti+pot Cheers! -- Om. "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch." -Jack Nicholson |

Chamomile tea or lavender tea is very good > for headaches ![]() Sinus headaches: I bought one of those funny looking things that you put your face down into and breath the moisture. It is a good alternative to pills. I have used it for at least 15-20 years. Use it 2-3 times and it really does relieve the headache. They used to be more money than you care to spend, but pretty cheap now. (Don't buy one of those cosmetic facial thingies, they don't work.) http://tinypic.com/ejen15.jpg Dee Dee |

Wish they did. All I get is water running down my face -- tee hee. I've given up on them. I understand the Nepalese use them first thing every morning while they are sitting in their usual way. The water running down probably feels good in that position, but not over a sink with a good blouse on -- tee hee. Anyone want to buy a used neti pot - ugh! Dee Dee |

I think OTC saline spray has some sort of preservative in it -- besides the salt and water; I wonder why? I did have a proper ratio of salt to water to use in my neti pot, but also if the temperature wasn't body temperature, it killed my sinuses, would send me right up to the ceiling with pain. Dee Dee |

Making "tepid" water is easy. Stick your finger into the pot. If you cannot "feel" the water, it's the right temp. I found it also felt good if it was a bit warmer. The only thing that made it HURT was if I did not get the salt content right! The formula is 1 pinch per pot. Taste it and if it tastes like tears, it's just right. I use sea salt. Cheers! -- Om. Then just warm it up. I'm sorry it did not work for you! It works great for me (no pain) and I have some co-workers that use them as well. Cheers! -- Om. Even the salmon nose drops for osteoporosis ruined my nose for about 6 months (sores) - yikes. DH tried it, but didn't stick with it. I agree with all things auryvedic (sp?), but they don't necessarily agree with me. Yes, AFAIK there is only one size of neti-pot (but I wouldn't want to bet on it it down to the grams), but I've had two and one was so heavy I couldn't pour it, and the other was a light plastic one. Plastic neti-pot -- an oxymoron, IMO. I've also heard that one can drown on 1 T water -- tee hee! Dee Dee |

The saline washes all that irritating crap out of your nasopharyngial passages. A large syringe will work also. You hold your head at the right angle so the saline is put into one nostril and drains out the other one. -- Om. "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch." -Jack Nicholson |

I do have a large syringe so I may try that. Does it not > make you choke? > > Not if you do it right... You tilt your head sideways and forward. Since the saline runs back out the opposite nostril, it never hits the back of your throat. Even when I did not get it quite right, as long as my face was tilted downwards, the worst it would do was run back too far and run out the roof of my mouth. I try to avoid that tho' and do it right. ;-) It took some practice, but not much. I had paid quite a bit of money to consult with what I knew to be an excellent "complimentary health care" practioner that was an MD. He worked part time in our ER and was very good at herbals, vitamins, Homeopathy and also some Ayervedic stuff. The neti-pot is Ayervedic (hope I spelled that right!) He was in to avoiding modern drugs except where absolutely necessary. He also introduced me to the concept of probitic supplements. He was well worth the $150.00 consult fee and spends 2 hours with his patients for that fee! Cheers! -- Om. "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch." -Jack Nicholson |

The vast majority do not. It only hurt me if I got the salt mix wrong! Think of plain water or sea water up your nose. <lol> You CAN buy pre-made physiological saline solutions for 100% correct concentration every time if you are not sure you can get it right. :-) It sure is wonderful for quick relief, and one HECK of a lot healthier than getting addicted to nasal sprays! -- Om. Saline sprays are okay but much, MUCH better is Alkalol... fill your emptied saline spray bottle with it. Sold at most drug stores, OTC... and it's cheap... less than $3/pint. http://www.medichest.com/alkalolliquid16oz.html Alkalol is a soothing topical mucous and solvent cleaner. Alkalol should be used from one-half to full strength, preferably warm. Nose: use in a douche cup or an atomizer. Throat: use as a gargle or a spray. Apply Alkalol freely on cotton or gauze for appropriate use in treating sunburn, and minor burns. Ingredients: Alcohol (1%), Cinnamon, Pine needle extract, Spearmint extract, Thymol, Eucalyptol, Menthol, Camphor, Benzoin, Potassium chlorate, Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Sodium chloride. --- Sheldon |
