Default Dinner tonight

Tonight for dessert I had Mary Ann Espisito's recipe for date bars. I
decided it was time to get rid of the Medjool dates in my frig. Instead of
using English Walnuts, I used Almonds. They were darned good (with a glass
of red wine).

Dinner was a store-bought ciabatta with ham and turkey and some leaf
spinach.
We spent a considerable amount of time before eating slicing and food-saving
a baked breast of turkey and a really-good ham. The dregs (small pieces)
were used on the sandwiches, with some dregs left over for tomorrow for ham
and eggs for breakfast and turkey soup later in the day. The rest went into
the freezer in the food-saver vacuumed bags.

We had broiled shoulder lamb chops, Brussels sprouts from the garden,
pickled beets (AHA!), and for dessert we had a couple of Belgian
chocolates along with Kona coffee (Smith Farms, natch. Thanks, Cea!)

The coffee was made in this thing:

I'm going to have to watch this morning's ATK; as I glanced at it going by
the TV as I was recording it, it looked like a coffee pot you showed on this
link. Pretty exciting -- what made you choose this and how long have you
had it?

I have collected vac pots for quite awhile and have some very old
ones dating back to the 1930s. This is my latest eBay acquisition.

I love the coffee from a vac pot, but none of mine is electric and
that means they have to be watched. I happen to like the show, with
the boiling water drawn up into the top globe and doing its "thing"
with the grounds, so for me it is terrific.

I have to say that we use such pots on the weekend, when the mornings
are more relaxed. During the week we use a Chemex.

Tonight it's going to be Steak and kidney stew with dumplings.

We finished the Black eyed pea soup last night.
