We're invited to a party this weekend, maybe a dozen adults, with food
and old horror flicks. I'm sure there will be plenty of sweet stuff. I'm looking for savory "dinner" type finger food with a halloween theme, something involving a meat ingredient, that we can take. (I'm saving the roadkill chili for the party at our house later in the week.) Would like it to be something people can pick up and eat without making a mess, served at room temp. The only thing I can think of right now is making phyllo triangles, but that's not especially Halloweeny. Appreciate any suggestions folks have so I don't have to resort to a veg tray with cheese dip. ![]() Dawn |

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but pretty cool nonetheless: http://www.familyfun.go.com/recipes/...0900monbrains/ http://www.familyfun.go.com/recipes/...f0900batchips/ Here's a cheese pizza-y thing that's supposed to resemble giant candy corn: http://www.familyfun.go.com/recipes/...ll_cheesecorn/ If you *do* end up doing the veggie tray thing, here's a cute dip..."finger food": http://www.familyfun.go.com/recipes/...amf0902finger/ Here's a cat litter casserole. Not really Halloween-y, but gross: http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=46833 From allrecipes.com: Cut slices of meatloaf with a bat-shaped cookie cutter, and serve with bat's blood (ketchup). Or just make your favorite chicken wing recipe and call it bat wings. If there's a sauce or dip involved, come up with a creepy name for it. How about an edible zombie? http://www.globalgourmet.com/food/kg...kgk102800.html Enjoy! Chris |

You put some almonds and a few drops of red food coloring in a plastic bag, shake to color the almonds, and set aside. That will be your fingernails. Then take some refrigerated bread stick dough and cut each in half across the width. Pinch in the sides of each stick in the middle and near the top, then score knuckle lines across the pinched-in sections. Press an almond fingernail at the top of each finger. Bake according to the package directions and brush with garlic butter. Something involving meat -- hmmm, maybe sandwiches with your favorite meat filling cut out with Halloween cookie cutters. Foccacia topped with sausage, cheddar, and black olives for a black and orange pizza. Ribs -- call them monster bones. Tara |

Thanks for the suggestions. After poking around some more I came up with
two things to try. One is a variation on the old pigs-in-a-blanket theme, making the little sausages up to look like mummies, and I think I'm going to make a green slime (food coloring) mustard dip to go with those. The other dish will use up my half box of phyllo -- moldy onion triangles. (carmelized onion and blue cheese tarts). We'll see if any survive the evening. ![]() Dawn |

I forgot to mention roasted pumpkin seeds.
Paula Deen showed Halloween snacks on her show this morning. You can find her recipes on foodtv.com. Tara |
