Default Converting plain flout to SR

This is a UK question, as I suspect it is different in the USA. I have
a lot of plain flour and wondered if I could just add baking powder and
use as self raising flour? If so what proportion of baking powder please?

yes you can indeed and very recently Wayne posted the proportions:

'To make 1 cup of self-rising flour, take 1 cup
all-purpose flour and add 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon
salt.'

Note: DO NOT GO OUT AND BUY SELF-RISING FLOUR! It's expensive, it goes bad
quickly, and unless you make bread everyday, you'll never use the whole
bag!!!! for each cup of "self-rising" flour that you need, use instead: 1
cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4
teaspoon baking soda If recipe already has salt in it, you may want to omit
the salt from the original recipe. From Judy Mccoy Oct 24/90 From: JIM
