Default Durgin-Park Boston Baked Beans

Thanks to all who replied to my recent request for a favorite bean
recipe. I ultimately decided on the Durgin Park recipe, mostly because
that's the one that kept cropping up the most whenever I asked folks
about beans.

Anyway, I made them for a potluck party I attended today. They were
*wonderful*. Several posters mentioned that they were a bit sweet, so I
cut back the sugar in the recipe by half - and they came out perfect!

I also made a black bean salad with corn, tomatoes and roasted poblanos,
with a chili-lime-cumin dressing. Really excellent! If anyone's
interested I'll be happy to post the recipe.

Excellent choice. That's SO's standard baked bean recipe. We have the
ingredients for it in the house, but we need a potluck occasion to make
it. Forever is two people and the full Durgin Park bean recipe--and the
lower gastrointestinal consequences ;-).

Cindy,

I make the CI version of it, and we freeze the balance in seal baggies.
Seems to work well. There is no way to make less than a pound's worth of
beans (not worth the effort), but it does freeze well.

Instead of defrosting it, I pop it right into a pot of boiling water.
