Default Coming this Saturday on Semi-Homade: More Chocolate

Chocolate 2
What can be better than chocolate? It's one of the most
versatile ingredients - used in both savory and sweet dishes.
In fact, Sandra Lee uses chocolate in all types of recipes
including Mixed Fruit and Spring Greens with White Chocolate
Orange Vinaigrette, White Chocalate Cherry Martini, Chocolate
Almond Fondue, Grilled NY Strip with Chocolate Merlot Sauce,
and Cherry Almond Rice Mexicana.

Either SLop is running out of ideas or I've got a serious case of deja vu:

A salad with white chocolate chips (is that technically even chocolate?) and
MANDARIN ORANGE "JUICE" from a can.

Melted "chocolate" vinager-ette? How will this work? I pictured the melted
"chocolate" forming teeny tiny pellets when it hits the (presumably) cold
vinegarette, like pouring melted butter into cold milk.

Taco seasoning and chocolate and onion soup mix?

Default Coming this Saturday on Semi-Homade: More Chocolate

Best is chocolate pure with high cocoa solids whatevers, over 70%, is
in fact one of the best, if not the best anti-oxidants known to man. I
was real happy to see that ressearch finding recently in the news. The
problem is finding out how pure the chocolate is. I find even 99% pure
at Fresh Fields, Whole Foods, but you have to melt it to eat it. And
it's not all that sweet, too pure.

I nearly burn my mouth off, duh. I don't know where my double boiler is
- so took, ahem, a short cut. The other problem is eating only 100
grams a day, yeah, right. A pound of chocolate is a pound gone. Just
had some Stonyfield Chocolate Underground fat-free yogurt. Could eat 10
of those without any trouble and it's on sale this week, uh oh, I am in
big trouble.

Oh, I wasn't sneering at them, just pointing out they're probably not
what health experts had in mind when they recomenmded eating chocolate
for its health benefits.

How come nobody's ever mentioned that the woman's so botoxed, she can't
move half her face?

carob is gross, but in my opinion, just about all food substitutes are
gross. I do use sugar substitutes, though.

The diabetic diet does allow for anything and everything, in
moderation. It's probably the best diet there is, for that reason,
and what Richard Simmon's Deal A Meal and Weight Watchers are based
off of. The only problem people see is the slow weight loss or weight
maintenance. Most people want fast, noticable results, so they turn
to Atkins and South Beach. They may lose a lot of weight, but they'll
gain it all back the minute they stop the diet, or they will
constantly crave the foods the diets don't allow. It's much better to
eat what you want in small amounts.

My wife has been doing weight watchers and it is working well for her.
After our last child she had a bit of trouble getting that last 10-15
pounds off that she had picked up. I think she is just about where she
wants to be now.

It sounds like the solution is to just eat more of the less pure stuff.

I used to work in a pet store.. we sold Carob for dogs (cause chocolate is
poisonous to them) and even my dog wouldn't eat it.. it's gotta be bad..

*Carob* isn't bad--it's what the 'health food' industry does to
it that's awful. The carob tree produces a pod that dries out
to something very hard and sweet, and munching on that pod can
keep your mouth happily busy for hours. There are beautiful,
smooth seeds in it that definitely are inedible.

The 'health food' people grind up the pod and the seeds and
make a weak, sweet powder that they try to pass off as a chocolate
substitute. Since this week's nutritional analysis says that
chocolate is good for you, perhaps they will stop.

For those of us who detest chocoloate due to allergic reaction, carob is
a good alternative.
