Default (MSG) Neuropathy & Diabetes, My foot pain is gone!

Neuropathy & Diabetes, My foot pain is gone!

I feel compelled to share this! Maybe old news to some but I'm psyched!

For over a year I've suffered with pain in my one foot that has had
this big ol' bad biker on the verge of tears! Pain that I can only
describe as like a red hot icepick being stuck into various places in
my foot and ankle! MANY sleepless nights. At worst I pointed my pistol
at my foot thinking the pain could only be lessened if I blew my foot
off! Well nevermind, it WAS just a thought! My Doctor gave me Neurontin
with 'NO' effect 'cept to make me 'rummy'...

It was only recently that, on my own, I realized a correllation of
'PAIN' with a particular food product I ate on a regular basis! This
realization was made apparent when I had doubled-up the portions,
resulting in GREATER pain!

It seems to be the MSG content in the seasoning packages contained in
those "RAMEN" type noodle soups! I was eating at least one of them a
day and it was when I doubled the portion that the lightbulb lighted! I
have since stopped eating them and the pain has all but vanished! I
mean if at worst it was gauged at 100, my pain is now only at 5, and
not at all as frequent!

So there ya are! I hope this helps someone!

I seriously doubt any doctor would prescribe this drug before doing a
workup, including blood tests. I don't think 1-2 ramen seasoning
packets a day would alone cause so severe an effect, you must have some
underlying medical problem.

GABAPENTIN - ORAL
Pronunciation: (gab-uh-PEN-tin)

BRAND NAME(S):
Neurontin

USAGE:
Gabapentin is used with other medications to help control seizures in
adults and children (3 years of age and older). It is also used to
relieve nerve pain associated with shingles (herpes zoster) infection
in adults.

OTHER USES: Gabapentin may also be used to treat other nerve pain
conditions (e.g., diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy,
trigeminal neuralgia).

Sounds like gout...at the least I'd get a uric acid blood test.

Neurontin indeed was perscribed for diabetic neuropathy, I am diabetic!
It didn't help! I have sworn off of the Ramen soups and have not had
the pain I was having before. I haven't made any other changes in my
diet. From whence does your doubt come? I'm only sharing my real
experience. The MSG is listed second in order of contents on the season
packet... What ever it is, I simply have been relieved of pain since I
stopped eating those soups!

So maybe my details weren't complete. The Neurontin was perscribed
after my regular (every 3 months) blood work! In fact, after telling my
Dr. that the pain was getting worse and the Neurontin wasn't working,
she schedualed some ultrasound tests, at a pretty far-off hospital, to
further look into the problem... It was during the time between the
schedualing and the actual appointment that I discovered the link
between the MSG and the pain... Now that the pain is gone I'm not going
for the tests and I've informed her about what I have discovered about
the MSG & me... She thought it was "interesting" and she wanted to look
further into it. In the meantime I continue "Pain Free!" LJ

You know? I'm no Dr. and I'm not sayin' my situation is everyone's. I'm
just passing on some real experience I've had in the hopes that it
might help someone else. I have in the past even scoffed at people
that reported "MSG allergy" or "reaction"... I take it back now in
light of my findings!

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.........................
It musta been the MSG!

Pain(and MSG)Free!

I have peripheral neuropathy, and have taken Neurontin. It doesn't work.
You should see the class actions against Neurontin .... amazing what drug
co.'s try to get away with in the name of money.

Those packets often contain (in addition to MSG)
the flavor enhancers disodium inosinate and
disodium guanylate. I've had peripheral neuropathy
caused by those chemicals, and that may be happening
in your case.

An easy way to test this question is that many
flavored potato chips (BBQ flavor, etc.) have
these flavor enhancers without also containing MSG.
When my PN was at its worst, it would flare up
just by eating a few of these chips.

Disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate are
often used as MSG substitutes, when manufacturers
wish to avoid declaring MSG on the ingredients list.
They are also used in combination with MSG, because
the combination has more flavor-enhancing punch
than any of the components alone. The combination
also produces a brighter flavor enhancement (don't
know how else to describe it) than simply using
a larger quantity of MSG. Ramen flavoring packets
often use this combination.

Yeah they do because mine did. 4 months later I asked for a diabetes test
and failed. They just hand you the pills.
