Remember my recommendation of the Horseshoe Bar Grill in Loomis? They have a
new head chef, driving away the guy who'd been doing such a stellar job. I
ate there last night, and the new guy is a thousand times worse. Don't go
there.

Concrete criticisms:

The menu listed a crab and sweet pea panna cotta, which I ordered. The
waiter showed up with a lobster burrito (which he called a "blini") and said
that the panna cotta wasn't supposed to still be on the menu. It wasn't
good.

Had a "mahi mahi bouillabaise" which contained no shellfish of any kind,
only a chunk of what was purportedly mahi mahi. It was WAY too salty.

My date ordered a medium-rare steak. She got a medium-well steak.

The desserts were on a par with a school cafeteria. I ordered a mixed-berry
strudel which turned out to be a mixed-berry crisp -- NOT AT ALL what I
ordered. My date's lemon tart was indistinguishable from a commercial tart
shell with commercial lemon curd dolloped in.

Well, they gave us a BIG discount on our wine, but my opinion of the place
has plummeted. I'll give the new guy a month or two to hit his stride and
see if things improve. If not, I'll sadly have to write the place off.

Loomis is about 40 miles east of Sacramento, California. I'd brought up the
restaurant on the chat line, and both sf and Christine expressed an interest
in going there, so I wanted to warn them off before they made the trek and
spent the money.

I'm sorry to hear that!

It sounded like a good place to try the next time I'm in the area...
oh, well. Report back in a few months!
