Skip to the last couple paragraphs if you want my food question. This
is deep background. Current flyer for TM (the store) sale that begins today has an 11-cup Cuisinart on the cover for $100. Fancy that. Replacement parts that I can use for my current 11-cupper run to $100 plus shipping (or close). Not knowing how the crowds are for these things and recalling your tale about arm-wrestling someone for a Cuisinart for your daughter, I decided to be there early. Margaret would have been proud. Margaret IS proud. Or will be when she reads this. I was first in line 40 minutes before opening. The line formed behind me. Ladies #2 and #3 were there to look for the Lalique flutterbys and Hummels. About 10 people in line and a geezer couple comes along. They go to the back of the line and then the old guy moves to near the exit door, ostensibly perusing the window display. Door opens, I went in and went to the food processors and got mine. I putzed in the store for a while and ran into Ladies 2&3 and asked if they got what they wanted. Nope -- the old guy went in and grabbed everything. Herd mentality and survival of the fittest, I guess. I'm a little embarrassed to mention this purchase but I'm among friends. .. . I also bought a spritzer for balsamic vinegar. With the vinegar inside. A "flavor spritzer." Now, if one is going to trim calories, I don't think balsamic has any to trim. And I do use an oil spritzer for olive oil. It was a whim. In my putzing I came across a bottle of avocado oil for maybe $3-4. I don't know if that's a buy or not but it's in my kitchen right now. How do I want to use it to its best advantage? I await your advise. -- http://www.jamlady.eboard.com, updated 11-7-05 with the first story about our trip to San Francisco for Nephew Pat's wedding last weekend. |

You would have killed him, just as I taught you. |

I was in the SF area from the 31st and then on Vacation - Just back to the salt mine today. Had I know you were up there we could have touched base. Or at least met for a bread bowl full of soup at the Warf. As far as the avocado oil is concerned I like it as the base for a fresh dressing. Just the oil and some citrus (preferably fresh) and some light herbs is a delight to drizzle over shell fish like a grilled shrimp or a layered salad. There are several good recipe sites. It's nice stuff. Dimitri |

I've seen them at the local TM, but haven't been tempted yet. If it's great, let us know...I'll go grab a few bottles. > > In my putzing I came across a bottle of avocado oil for maybe $3-4. It's a nice taste for salad dressings. Maybe with lime or lemon. I tend to just start splashing things together until I get something I like. When I was looking at the avocado oil when I bought mine, there was a woman perusing the same section, and she noticed that I had picked up the oil and asked what I was going to do with it. Salad dressing, I said. She picked it up, looked at it, read the nutrition label, and muttered, "!00 percent of calories from fat!" and she sort of shuddered and put it down like it was toxic. Hmmmmm...where did she expect the calories to be from in a bottle of oil? She had the same sort of reaction when she saw that the maple syrup was mostly sugar. Although she didn't buy the fat-free cheese sauce because she figured it wouldn't be good without fat. I'm not sure what she was looking for, but eventually she settled on something she liked. Or maybe she's just used to buying mixes and prepared foods that she seldom looks at single-ingredient products. But I get a chuckle out of it every time I think about it. "Oh my, this sugar is 100 percent carbs! Oooo, this peanut oil is really fatty! Oh my, this salt has a lot of sodium!" <snicker> Donna |

Unplanned. Am writing the tale now. 8-( -- http://www.jamlady.eboard.com, updated 11-7-05 with the first story about our trip to San Francisco for Nephew Pat's wedding last weekend. |
