While doing my grocery shopping today I splurged on a 28 ounce can of
John Mc.Cann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal... haven't had this in years. Tomorrow's breakfast will be yummy and healthful. Isn't there some Irish law that says when one has Mc.Cann's for brecky one must imbibe a minimum of six pints that day? http://www.mccanns.ie/index.html Sheldon |

Always wondered about savoury oat recipes, I only ever do porridge, parkin or cookies. Thanks Sarah |

Not being a smartass, just curious. My breakfast this a.m. was freshly made bread schmeared with apple pumpkin butter and a "Tammacino" which is my pseudo-cappucino made with extra strong cawfee, a dollop of sf chocolate DaVinci syrup, frothed milk, and a sprinkling of cocoa on top. Yum. TammyM, loves steel cut oats |

I don't know if this makes them better, or it is something nutritionally. We have bought steel-cut oats in 50# buckets, in small amounts from Trader Joes in a package, in bulk at Whole Foods, etc. and in the green/gold/white tins. I can't say any are better quality than the other. Dee Dee |

Consequently, the grains remain a bit more obvious when cooked, which is my preference. -- Wayne Boatwright *¿* _____________________________________________ A chicken in every pot is a *LOT* of chicken! |

I do an oat-nut burger by mixing (sorry, no quantities, I do it by feel, but next time I do it, I'll post amounts) oats, chopped walnuts, diced onion and celery, milk and egg, salt and pepper together until it's a thick batter. Let it sit ten minutes or so, then make patties out of it and fry them in oil. When they're done, they're good as they are, or sometimes I lay them in a baking dish and cover them with mushroom gravy, then bake them for 20-30 minutes. My idea of heaven. Maybe I'll make those this week. It's been too long. serene |
