It's a standard here in Virginia for the various large home gardens. I daresay, every Mennonite farmer with a kitchen garden grows beans on corn stalks. I drive past such garden plots every day. They're plowed under now, piled with last year's compost, but next spring, they'll do it all over again. > Got any more bullshit stories? > > Lima beans are not easy to grow even under the best of conditions, Not in evidence in the cited web site. And not in evidence in my direct experience. > which is why they typically cost more than other bean varieties. Actually, they're more labor intensive if talking about pole types. Bush types have short maturity dates and are cheaper. > Lima beans require an unusually long growing season, 65 to 80 days, depending on variety. They talk about two crops per growing season on your web citation. > and need full sun, they > will not produce in shade. <LOL> Shecky cites this web site at the end of this post: "Lima Beans COMMERCIAL VEGETABLE PRODUCTION" <http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/pubcd/C716-w.htm> Perhaps that "COMMERCIAL VEGETABLE PRODUCTION" part slipped past him. As though home gardens are operated on the same principles as commercial farming. And, BTW, it's for Georgia. And, they list 11 different types including 3 kinds of butter beans. > There are a number of lima bean cultivars, > any of which can and are refered to as butter beans (in the US south), > but they are all lima beans regardless, whether you wanna call em > "butter beans" or "hillybilly fart makers". <LOL> I notice you ignored the long post I offered with citations and relevant information that, as usual, showed your idiocy in full color. I like this one you posted to Elaine in another post: Large Lima * Flat-shaped, white-colored beans * Smooth, creamy, sweet flavor * Also known as Butter Beans * Popular as a sidedish or added to soups and casseroles <http://www.americanbean.org/BeanVarieties/Home.htm> <LOL> Sheldon goes to a dictionary for horticultural and culinary info. What a brilliant researcher. > Merriam Webster > butter bean > noun > 1 : LIMA BEAN: as a chiefly Southern & Midland : a large dried lima > bean > --- > http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/pubcd/C716-w.htm Yeah. A real good cite if you're growing limas commercially in Georgia. Bwah... Pastorio |

It says "large lima" not "Fordhook" or "Baby" which he said, yesterday, were the only two types of limas. It says "white-colored beans." Limas are green. The picture shows *white* beans. Bwah... As I think on it, they *are* rather like really fresh black-eyed peas, the latter bearing NO resemblance to those canned atrocities. Lima beans, butter beans, favas, black-eyed peas . . . Who cares the size of the molds, as long as they're fresh! Spitz -- "Home, James, and don't spare the horses!" |

I once met a Japanese guy who had never heard of them, at least not by that name. So I pseudocasually told him butter came from butter beans, with a straight face. We argued about it for a minute, me pretending I was serious, and I said, ok, I'll prove it to you. Went and got a can of butter beans - the look of confusion on his face way a joy ![]() NT |
