What with one thing and another, various members of The Tribe are
going off in all different directions for the first time in Recorded History. The DH and I are the only ones left standing alone for Turkey Day (US). We are, therefore, taking off on our motorcycles, carrying light, and stopping wherever it suits, for a long weekend. This is somethin': only the second time in 35 years that I haven't done a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. Whoo hooo! Anyone else doing solo? Vroom, vroom, mi amigos! Terry "Squeaks" Pulliam Burd AAC(F)BV66.0748.CA "If the soup had been as hot as the claret, if the claret had been as old as the bird, and if the bird's breasts had been as full as the waitress's, it would have been a very good dinner." -- Duncan Hines To reply, replace "spaminator" with "cox" |

This will be the first time in several years that we'll have a family member at the Thanksgiving table (SO's mom, who moved to a nearby retirement complex). My grad school roommate will also be part of the festivities. The menu will be relatively traditional, since the mom is a bit leery of new things. Cindy -- C.J. Working at a university, I know quite a few people who do TG solo. One friend likes to work at a soup kitchen on TG day. A couple of others usually find someone they know to share the holiday with. Going out on a motorcycle trip over the TG holiday sounds like an interesting approach. This TG will be a bit strange for me. My sister got married last August. Her and her husband decided this year to do TG with his folks. Last year, they did TG with my side of the family. Alternating seems reasonable, but it will be the first TG since my sister was born 40 years ago that we've spent that holiday apart. I am sure that we'll all have a nice holiday anyway. |

Family has either moved or passed on or divorced, and all our friends (the ones we'd invite for dinner anyway) are going out of town this year. I look at it like this. No complaints at the lack of mashed potatoes. No whining "But I don't eat ____". No strange looks at the soup course. No grumpy people declaring they don't want a salad they're just here for the turkey dammit. Nobody asking "What else have you got" when I offer dessert. And a whole lot less dishes to clean up afterward. ![]() The B&B sounds wonderful. I came ]this[ close to planning an out-of-country holiday, and I'm glad we didn't as work got really bad at hubby's office last week and we'd have had to cancel. Dawn |

They all want to control my life as if I'm still 10 years old. I'm roasting a deboned chicken stuffed with boudin, accompanied by roasted acorn squash and some steamed broccoli. I *might* make some soup; might bake some cornbread or rolls... not sure about that yet. Jill |

However, last year, I schmoozed with friends while my partner did Every. Last. Dish. So I can't complain. serene, who is skipping the salad this year because no one ever eats it |

Sometimes with family you don't get that choice. ![]() But to be fair, some people really like their traditional Thanksgiving, and I found out if I mess with the menu too much the family will revolt. The in-laws were not at all accustomed to change. I thought my FIL was going to have heart failure over the mashed potatoes. The salad comment got me though. I very nearly threw it across the room. > Sing it! However, last year, I schmoozed with friends while my partner > did Every. Last. Dish. So I can't complain. My husband just finished loading the dishwasher and putting away leftovers. I love him so. Dawn |
