I don't understand what the big deal is about posting that people are in the RFC chat. I don't know the politics or the personal stories. And I don't really want to learn them. The advice to killfile is forever being posted. How about if any time someone wants to post about the chat, they head the post something about "chat" and everybody who wants not to hear about it can kill it? Oh, well. We each have our buttons... Unless you're one of the relatively few people who have a static IP address, then worrying about this is just silly. If you do have one, or if you're worried about the relatively short persistence of a dynamic IP on broadband (you can force a change if you're that paranoid by rebooting your modem/router - but if your home network is set up properly the address seen from the outside has no relationship to your actual machine address anyway) then you should have a firewall and a router so that . . . . . oh, never mind. -- The Doc says my brain waves closely match those of a crazed ferret. Some people can't change their name for whatever reason, they just say who they are and it's no big deal. All of this fuss is over a person who won't say anything even when asked, who are you, or please say something. Takes brass ones, to me, to be asked a direct question and not say a word. Night after night. Not that I'm there night after night, but it seems they are. Essentially the person who started this thread rather misconstrued the newsgroup rule and, I guess, didn't ask anyone what it's about. There are people who don't use their real name, but we know them as their fake name. That's okay. nancy |

It pinpoints the > ISP. Period. Who's period? :-) When we got DSL, back before dirt was invented, we got a block of IP addresses. They are ours, and nobody else can use them. That was a good thing, but I don't remember why. I'm not sure it is good anymore. There are some good reasons to have static IP addresses, but none of them apply to us right now at home. I didn't understand why I didn't need to specify an IP address for the last three computers we installed at home. Turns out that there is a DHCP server, and it hands out whichever of the four aren't currently in use at the time. When I worked, I had a static IP address at work. We used DHCP, but the server was instructed to always give me the same IP address. When I accessed certain remote databases, the firewall checked my IP address before it would let me in. We had employees and consultants who worked from home. If they didn't have a static IP address, they couldn't get in. If you have dialup, or dynamic IP assignment, then you are assigned an IP address from your ISP pretty much at random. Still, that *is* your IP address as long as you are logged in. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California, USA |

A question posted in group would have gotten all the answers necessary. I just started going to chat within the past few weeks. I didn't know anything about the RFC chat, nor do I follow the politics here. Nor did I know how to do any part of it, not being a chatter since I was on AOL for that brief time in the last century. Asked a couple questions showing my ignorance of the processes, got a few answers, and now I can play if I want to. Very simple. Go he <http://www.penguinpowered.ca/~vexorg/pjirc/rec.food.cooking.html> In the lower right corner is a blank space with another box immediately above it that says "change nick to." Put your cursor in it and type your nickname into the blank box, and hit enter. Your nick will show up in the list of people currently in attendance. Immediately under the message panel is a blank space. Type any messages you want to post in that space and hit enter. Tha-tha-that's all folks. That's all you need to get started. Or, at least, it's all I needed. You can also change the color of the type you post. Can send private messages to attendees. Other options are available. I don't know much else because I don't need to for how I use the chat room. I'm sure there are knowledgeable people here who would be happy to help. Pastorio |

We eat very little turkey and cook it rarely more than twice a year. Since I'm not overly fond of it, I find that making a turkey curry nicely overshadows the "past day 1" flavor I don't like. It makes quite a good curry. Friends served turkey divan a while back and it was very tasty. I don't think it was made from leftover turkey, but it certainly could be. Any other way and you'll be kicked out of the country: - Two slices of white bread - Miracle Whip (if you use mayonnaise you'll go to hell) - Sliced tomato (optional) - Lettuce (optional) - Too much Tobasco (there's no way to get around this essential ingredient) - A couple 4 slices of turkey Build your sandwich.
