Default Making Kettle Corn

To make kettle corn do you only need to throw some sugar in the popper? I
use a half cup of popcorn, and 4 tablespoons of corn oil. About how much
sugar should I add? I make the popcorn on the stove using gas heat, and one
of those poppers with the stir thing, but it broke so I just shake it every
once in a while.

Thanks

Tom

Adding 1/4 cup of white sugar to the unpopped corn makes kettle corn. If
you want "caramel" corn, you can use brown sugar.

Default Making Kettle Corn

Hi Tom,

I have one of those whirley poppers and it makes the best kettle corn. The
recipe I use is 1/3 cup popcorn, 1/4 oil, 1/4 cup sugar. I always use
Orville's popcorn and for the oil I always add a squirt of the butter
flavored oil found in the popcorn section and then fill the 1/4 cup the rest
of the way with canola oil. YUM!

I've never been able to make it in a pan. The sugar burns and it's a
mess. I just throw sugar and salt over the popped corn with a little
butter. Not as good as cowboy corn, but it's still good.

Practice safe eating. Always use condiments.

Same here. For what it's worth, here's the Unofficial RFC Kettle Corn
recipe. <G>

Kettle Corn

Recipe By amsel
Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : snacks

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
vegetable oil
popcorn
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
salt -- for sprinkling

In a three-quart saucepan (or "kettle") with a tight-fitting lid, pour
enough oil to cover to a depth of about one-half the size of a popcorn
kernel. Add two "test" kernels of popcorn, and turn heat to medium
high. When the test kernels pop, the oil is hot enough to continue.

Quickly pour in enough popcorn to cover the bottom of the saucepan in
an even layer. Sprinkle the sugar over the unpopped kernels, and
place the lid on the pan. As the corn pops, shake the pan
occasionally to assure that unpopped kernels reach the bottom of the
pan. When the lid starts to lift off the pan and the popping slows or
stops, remove pan from heat.

Pour popped corn into a large bowl or several smaller ones. Dust
lightly with salt.

Yield:
"12 cups"

Is this what we eat when there are flame wars here, and we want to sit
on the sidelines and watch?

Isn't that more of a personal preference?...I like eating half sours while
the war is on.

I just remember people saying that we need to get out the kettle corn,
and bring a chair to watch the action....

You eat the sours...I will eat whatever I feel like during the
matchups...
