I'm serving Moose martinis at the Chez Tammy Thanksgiving bar.

From www.drinksmixer.com

3 oz blackcurrant vodka
1 tsp Chambord® raspberry liqueur

Method
Shake both ingredients with cracked ice and strain into a chilled
cocktail glass. Garnish with juniper berries macerated in vermouth,
and serve.

Other martini offerings are available :-)

God love ya, Moosemeat, I miss you a bunch!

Huh? WHere's the gin?
When did "martini" go from a gin/vermouth mix to all these other flavors??

Yeah, Moosie is missed.

When some idiot decided to open the first "martini bar" and serve drinks
of every flavor under the sun based on the premise that some kind of vodka
mixed with an assortment of other liquors constitutes a "martini". In
their demented capacity they deduced that any drink consisting of all
spirits was the equivalent. Apparently it's chic and fashionable with
much of the younger set. :-(

Some of these drinks may be tasteworthy, but they sure as hell aren't
martinis by any stretch of the imagination. FWIW, I don't even recognize
a vodka "martini" as a true martini.

Yes, he will.

You didn't read the recipe very carefully:

>>Method
>>Shake both ingredients with cracked ice and strain into a chilled
>>cocktail glass. Garnish with juniper berries macerated in vermouth,
>>and serve.

Juniper berries are the primary flavoring for gin. It is often made
with vodka flavored with juniper berries, among other things. The above
specifies vermouth. Still, I have to agree.

Au contraire, monsieur. It is based on the premise that anything
served in a martini glass is a martini. Sacrilidge, I say!

ITA. Vokda does not a martini make.

Indeed, but FWIW, I actually prefer my gin martini on the rocks. I like
extremely cold drinks. :-)

And has been since the 50's when a vodka company wanted to move into the
US market and did so with some product placements in various movies
advocating the "vodka martini". Since then, "martini" has become
synonomous with "cocktail" instead of refering to the specific
gin/vermouth drink it'd been for years before.

As do I. Store the gin in the freezer. Pre-ice the glass with crushed
ice (full) and club soda - the little bit of salt in the club soda
makes the glass get *really* cold. No more watered-down martinis!

I am also a triple olive girl - the big, fat imported kind stuffed with
pimento. Yum. Now I have to go buiy some gin tomorrow - see what you
have done!

I hope there's a good martini bar where he is, 'cause I'm hopin' to
join him in the "sweet bye and bye."

Yeah, when I saw Tammy's subject header, I thought perhaps some

Grandmother taught me to mix martinis (gin/vermouth/some green olive
juice) at the tender age of eight. Yup, these other combos are just
newbies... ;-)

Thank you, Jill. That is sad. I always enjoyed his posts. I knew where he

Oh pooh, it wouldn't be RFC if we didn't pipe in with grumbles about the
deterioration in martinis, eh?

Make sure you ask Moosie for a good lounge act when you get there, okay?

I'm boiling up turkey carcass ribs, and dedicated the first soup to Moose.

Not picking on you, just the sentiment, it turns out that the
original martini was made with sweet vermouth. Since the purists insist
that it must be made with gin and extra dry vermouth, and that isn't how
the original was made, who cares what people do with it now?
