Default Buttermilk

I think this came up recently but can't find relevant posts.

I have a recipe here that calls for 1 cup buttermilk. If I can't get
buttermilk, what's the best substitute?

In a pinch you can add some lemon juice or vinegar to milk. It's not

Thanks Michael - it does help! Going to print this out so I don't lose it
again.

It's a recipe for a gingerbread cake... for gingeroholics! If it works well,
I'll post it.

They have said you must post the recipe, because you must know the acidity
of ingredients.
Am I right folks?

Ps. I need buttermilk for "Angel biscuits". I don't know if somebody knows
this recipe.
Cheers

In that case, I recommend buying plain yogurt at the supermarket and
substituting it for the buttermilk.
