Default Can't wait for Easter!

Okay, Christmas/Chanukah/Hannukah/Kwanzaa is almost over. We still have to
get through Hogmanay (happy new year!). After that there isn't anything to
really celebrate, unless you count Valentines Day... For that, bake two
round cakes... cut one in half and wrap it around the other round cake to
form a heart. Frost it. Put some halved strawberries on the top. Say "I
love you" and you're done.

Now, we're up to Easter. April. Probably. You never know. No one really
knows when Easter is. Okay. Boil some eggs. You don't want soft boiled
eggs, which OB food: are delicious for breakfast with a little butter, salt
& pepper. Serve with buttered wheat toast to sop up the egg yolk.

But no, for this you want hard boiled eggs. Dip them in weird dye stuff to
change the colour of the shells. (Be sure to criticize people who do the
same thing to their hair. Blue?! Purple?!) If you want to get really cool
with this, attach funny stickers or sprinkle them with glue and glitter
sparkles.

Now run around in the dark and hide these eggs under bushes and in trees.
It's the very adult thing to do. All your neighbors are doing it. Make a
map so you know where they are...so when you send the kiddies out to hunt
for eggs they don't wander off and get captured to work in Santa's workshop
until next December. They pretend they are 'elves' but elves are too smart
to work in a toyshop at the North Pole. It's too friggin cold up there.

Happy Holidays!

Jill

I know. Buds get prego. Bulbs erect... tear drops, hyacinth,
daffodils, tulips, etc. Birds return. Nests get built. Snow melts,
streams run quicker. Canada geese swoop in from the stratosphere...
fawns flit through the meadows... it's Easter.

Easter is observed on the Sunday after the first full moon on or after
the day of the vernal equinox. A holdover from the Jewish calendar, I
assume.

Is that incorrect? I checked wikipedia, to be sure, but someone may have
posted incorrect information.

WHAT???

You forgot Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Martin Luther King's Birthday,
Groundhog Day, President's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and the Ides of March.
And with a bit more effort, I'm sure I could find at least half-a-dozen more
reasons to celebrate between Christmas and Easter.

By the way, the Valentine's Day cake is a helluva lot easier if you bake one
eight-inch round cake and one eight-inch SQUARE cake. Then cut the round
cake in half and put the halves against adjacent edges of the square cake.

And deprive a poor bunny of its ears? How could he hear you when you're
about to bite the head off?

Oh I love the description - Year: Old.

That's cute but I think I'll just buy a chocolate bunny in the spring
instead. Remember how great it was to find out if they were solid chocolate
or the el-cheapo hollow chocolate ones? Oooh! We got the *GOOD* bunnies!
So Santa lied when he said we'd been bad... <chomp chomp> Anyone got a
malted milk egg to trade for some jelly beans?

Oh dear... the problem is some people believe a ground hog (which is a small
furry animal) can tell if it will be a cold winter. So they sit and wait
for this critter to come outside and see if it will see its shadow. If it
does, it fortells 6 more weeks of winter. The "official" ground hog is
known as Punxsutaney Phil

He can tell the weather... um... yeah, right. I can tell you if it will be
cold and when I'm baking scones. That would be this morning

Thanks)) We have St Swithin's day when it is believed that if it rains
on that day, it will continue to rain for 40 days and 40 nights)

No, it's not a celebration; it's letting a wild animal predict the weather.
They are better at it than the men they pay on local television I would
rather the darned cute buck-teethed groundhog not see his shadow and let
winter go away.

It's pouring down rain here on Christmas Eve. I need to go to the store to
buy onions (or maybe shallots), celery and garlic to add to the cornbread
dressing I'm making tomorrow with the cornish game hens. And ingredients
for hollandaise sauce for the broccoli.

Happy Holidays!

Jill

Egg dying is the "funnest" part. When my kids were small, we started
dying eggs weeks in advance. Every time I bought a dozen eggs, we'd
dye them. Yes, we dyed raw eggs and had colorful eggs in the
refrigerator for a few weeks before Easter.
