It took some doing, but we finally got that 11 pound turkey stuffed
into the rotisserie that is supposed to be able to cook a 15 pound bird. [In your dreams!. Only if you were to cut the 15 pounder into quarters, tie it all together, and then put it on the spit.] So we now know that a 10-11 pound bird is the maximum for this appliance (the Showtime Platinum). That's a good size for two people. It's been a little over an hour, and the bird is browning nicely. Hopefully, it won't over-brown during the next hour and a half. Warning: There will be pictures. The rest of the menu is turning out to be mashed potatoes, gravy, popovers, and green beans. We're saving the corn for turkey cottage pie tomorrow. Crash, bless his soul, decided to forego baking the pie(s) until tomorrow. We're both pretty run down today. The best gift of all, a phone call with my daughter. It seems she loves me. <SMILE> Carol, slurping down some White Grenache, which is really pink |

We'd been expecting crisp skin all over, but it only turned out that way on the bird's extremities. The mashed potatoes were good, too. I made them with evaporated milk and butter. The popovers were another story. They only rose slightly higher than a muffin would. The bottoms got burned, and are permanently attached to my muffin tin. The top two-thirds tasted good to me, even if they weren't light and airy. Crash hated the eggy innards. I'll finish eating the ones we've got, but I won't make more if I'll be the only one eating them. When removing the double spit from the turkey, I had to really tug. Then, all of a sudden, it let go, and the metal disc at the end of the spits smacked me in the lip. Hard. I got pretty cranky after that. Tomorrow is sandwiches on frozen bread dough which I will first allow to rise, then bake. And pies. We don't have any gravy left at all, and very little in the way of mashed potatoes, so we're foregoing the turkey cottage pie this time around. I wish the leftovers would pack themselves into the fridge. I'm exhausted. Merry Christmas to all who want one! And Happy Hannukah to those who celebrate that! Sorry if I missed anyone. Carol |

Do you have one of those Ronco Showtime Rotisseries? I have the Showtime Jr. Rotisserie, and haven't tried a turkey in there before although I have cooked chickens. |

The only disappointment was that the breast and thigh skin was soft, rather than crisp. Next time, we'll try the Pause and Seer option toward the end. Carol |

Maybe a little butter brushed on the thigh and breast near the end of
cooking? Chickens are good, but my favorite to do on the rotisserie is Pork Roast!! This thing makes the best pork roast i've ever had. My sister did a standing rib roast on hers, that was also great. |

We're thinking of doing a small beef roast and a small pork roast, primarily for the gravy. LOL! We do buy large pork loins, and look forward to cooking one of those in The Beast.
